E3 Vox Populi: What are your thoughts on the PS3 prices?

May 12th 2006 9:28PM (Joystiq)
I'm buying one! I want those games. This is actually the first time I'm going to buy at launch... probably because I'm starving from the PS2 games shortage.

I can understand people wanting to wait for a lower price but I can't understand not buying a PS3 at all.

Sony has always had the best third party support so you can bet PS3 is going to get plenty of exclusive kickass games. You are going to be missing out big time if you don't get a PS3 eventually.

Overheard at E3: Japanese don't accept first-person shooters

And in regards to that question "Why is it important to constantly view your character on the screen?"

Seeing your character is important because you're playing as him and if you can't see him it's almost like he doesn't exist. I want to see how awesome my character is.

Like in an mmorpg, why would you spend all this time designing your great avatar if you can't see him? One of the best features added in the MORPG PSU is a pop up window to see your characters face in full detail while he's talking. I want to see my character.

Overheard at E3: Japanese don't accept first-person shooters

Personally, I don't like FPS because of the themes the games revolve around (like WWII), I can't see my own character, and I'm not fond of shooting gameplay (unless we're talking schmups).

I believe Japanese dislike FPS for similar reasons.

The Great Schism: Eastern vs. Western gaming markets [Update]

Oh and I have to add: Developers should just make the games the way they want them. Don't adjust them for the markets.

It's a beautiful thing, when Raiden can be hated in the West (although his US voice actor really blows), and popular in Japan. Now Kojima is planning to make Raiden "hard boiled" for Western audiences? That's BS.

The Great Schism: Eastern vs. Western gaming markets [Update]

Apr 14th 2006 9:54PM (Joystiq)
I just looked at a PlayStation 10th Anniversary catalogue of every PSX/PS2 game released in Japan over the last 10 years and I'd estimate around 90% of these games never left Japan. I was surprised at the huge number of games that were "too Japanese" to sell to the west.

So I don't think there's anything wrong with Ubisoft giving up on Japan. There are a huge number of Japanese developers who don't even bother with the Western market.

I'm only angry when developers hurt the quality of the game/come up with stupid games when trying to cater to different markets. Like, Capcom's comments about their Lost Planet game are something like "We put in mechs for Japanese fans and FPS for Western gamers. (And a Korean actor for Japanese women)" or that xbox 360 Gundam game that looks like a standard Western FPS with a Gundam mod slapped on it. These kinds of things are terrible.
