Resident Evil: Afterlife trailer adds a new dimension to the Zombocalypse

Oh man, I've been wanting 3D to go mainstream for years, especially in gaming. I think Avatar has finally ushered in the 3D era (for movies at least) and I'm excited about it. Here's hoping the 3DS does the same for games.

Also, the first RE film is one of my all-time favorite movies. I'm definitely excited for a 4th, even if quality has slipped some.

Hands-on: Split/Second

I was very interested, but having to charge your power meter by drifting turns me off. Does that mean you have to snake through the whole thing, including straight parts? I really dislike the focus on drifting in modern racing games. Still, everything else looks amazing and I haven't written it off yet.

Xbox Live deals of the week: Turtles, Tiger and Marvel vs. Capcom

Feb 8th 2010 6:13PM (Joystiq)
I really, really want to get Marvel vs. Capcom. But I'm not, and it's all because of the crappy d-pad on the 360 controller. It simply ruins games that require precision d-pad presses. It RUINS them, and this is losing money for Microsoft.

What I can't understand is why there isn't a better controller on the market, even from one of the third parties. I'm not so hardcore that I want to drop $130 for a nice arcade joystick, but I'd pay $40-$50 for a new WIRELESS controller with a great d-pad. Alternatively, I'd pay $35 or so for a nice retro controller similar to the Classic Controller that Wii has. Man, if I could just hook that thing up to my XBox wirelessly, I'd be set.

GameStop COO proclaims need for educating customers about DLC

Feb 1st 2010 1:13AM (Joystiq)
But if a person never buys the game in the first place, they won't see those loading screens and in-game instructions. I think the COO is more interested in educating POTENTIAL customers, rather than existing customers, although there are benefits to educating both. Besides, Rock Band was just an example I was guessing at.

GameStop COO proclaims need for educating customers about DLC

Feb 1st 2010 12:02AM (Joystiq)
I think what he might mean is that not everyone understands how to get DLC, so when they are looking for a game to buy, they aren't aware of all available features. This is especially important for games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Some of the more casual players might not know how to get more tracks. If they don't like what's included in the game, they don't buy it, even if they might have enjoyed the DLC. And when they don't buy a game, GameStop loses a sale. So it is good if customers know all the features of a game.

Also, I don't understand all the hate for GameStop. Personally, I greatly appreciate having a specialized gaming store at the mall. They have a much wider selection than stores like Toys R' Us or Wal-Mart, especially when it comes to older games. It's nice to find the occassional gem like Baldur's Gate in one. That's just not possible in other retail stores. I think their prices are pretty good, too. Yeah, their buy prices are pretty low, but I don't sell to them, and no one else is being forced to sell to them either.

Readers pick best webcomic: No One Likes Superman

Jan 30th 2010 1:39AM (Joystiq)
Superman could be in a good shmup. He flies along shooting incoming aliens, robots, and Lex Luthers with his heat vision and icy breath weapons. While Superman can't be hurt himself, of course he's fighting all these bad guys while carrying Lois Lane around. So if he gets hit, she dies. Fortunately, you can get extra Loises if you get a high enough score. Just like in the comic.

PAX 2009: Duel the Dragon DLC coming to Duels of the Planeswalkers

Sep 6th 2009 1:50PM (Joystiq)
Well, this is cool news. Still, it is prehaps a bit sad that I'm more excited about the bug fixes than the additional content. No deck customization means I probably won't be buying the DLC.

Ben Heck swaps 360 D-pad with buttons, world implodes

Sep 2nd 2009 10:44PM (Joystiq Xbox)
This mod is pretty cool.

On a related note, I am in the market for a 360 controller with a good d-pad. I don't know if I am going to have to go the mod route or if there is already a third party controller available. Mostly I want it to play fighting games and retro games in Arcade. Something like the Wii's Classic controller would be perfect. Please post suggestions.
