Canadians get Batman: Arkham Asylum for $40 at multiple retailers

Aug 23rd 2009 6:08PM (Joystiq)
I have to apologize for my spelling in that last post. I used multiple spellings for both "ad" and "gift card." Furthermore, I should have put a comma after "Hey." Honestly, I know better, and I am truly sorry if I've offended anybody with my terrible grammar.

Canadians get Batman: Arkham Asylum for $40 at multiple retailers

Hey I saw that Toys R Us add, too. I read it a few times and it says the $30 gift card is a bonus for members. Does that mean they get the regular $20 AND a bonus $30 giftcard back? That would be a crazy good deal. I couldn't see where the ad said "one or the other." I feel like it IS one or the other, but the wording of the ad makes me wonder.

XBL 'Deal of the Week' has Ikaruga at a flipping nice $5

Jul 13th 2009 12:14PM (Joystiq)
This was the first game I bought on XBLA. The demo was great, but I feel I should mention that the full game is buggy. Often times, I cannot continue past the first level. I beat the boss at the end and then the game returns to the title screen instead of going to the second level. It is very frustrating to get a good run of chains and then lose it all to a glitch. I have come to believe this has something to do with my laggy internet connection. If you have a slow or laggy connection, I would expect trouble, even if you are not playing online with this game. I don't think they've fixed this, but it has been a long time since I've played, so I don't know for sure.

Otherwise, yeah, the game is incredible and totally insane at points.

Commodore64 iPhone app finished, denied by Apple

copa got the right answer. This isn't a security issue, it is a money issue.

Ed Boon: Next Mortal Kombat to be rated 'M'

Jun 19th 2009 10:27PM (Joystiq)
The biggest thing I'm really asking for in the next MK game is a setting to do one button fatalities. While playing MK vs. DC, I kept wanting to throw my controller through the TV due to the crappy d-pad. I'm pressing left-left, not up-up!

Major Nelson: Xbox Live Marketplace problems fixed

Jun 18th 2009 11:18PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I had a slight problem last night. I downloaded the Magic: the Gathering demo, played it, and decided to buy it. The purchase went through, but did not unlock the demo. I exited the game and tried re-downloading the full version. This download only took a few seconds and unlocked the game without having to download the whole 280MB again. I was pretty happy.

XBLA in Brief: Rocket Riot, Magic: The Gathering, Sam & Max

Jun 18th 2009 11:12PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I bought Magic and it looks like I'm definitely going to get 800 points worth of fun out of it. I've alreadly spent several hours on the campaign and am not even 1/8 of the way through. I hate that you can't really customize your deck except by adding up to 17 cards to it, but other than that, it is still fun.

Microsoft offering Silver members one month of Xbox Live Gold for $1

Jun 18th 2009 12:19AM (Joystiq)
Small, but important correction: Once your $1 month is up, they don't charge you for an extra 11 months. They start charging you the regular monthly fee of $7.99 a month (which adds up to $95.88 per year).

From the email they sent me: "You can also upgrade to a longer-term subscription to get Gold for a little over $4 per month. Users can cancel auto renewal by visiting www.xbox.com/live/accounts."

PSA: Xbox Live Marketplace has the hiccups [update: MS responds]

Jun 17th 2009 5:43PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I want to thank Joystiq for posts like these. I tried to download MTG today, but it failed. I figured it was because of my crappy Internet connection. I was going to retry later, but then I saw this post first. I figure you guys saved me several hours of frustration trying to mess with my router and XBox settings, etc. So thanks for that and for the updates to the story so I know when it is okay to download again.

Hands-on: Split/Second

Jun 10th 2009 8:17PM (Joystiq)
This game looks amazing! I was blown away when I saw the demo during the E3 footage, and I'm so glad this hands-on article reinforces those feelings.

I don't think damage modeling for cars is that big of a deal in a game like this. It obviously isn't trying to be a realistic experience. With so much going on, I figure cars will be crashing hard many times during a race. It would be kind of silly to see every single person rolling over the finished line in a totalled wreck. On the other hand, "Midnight Club: LA" had some decent damage effects and there were quite a few major crashes in that game. You could still win even with a few major wipeouts. I hope this one plays similarly. I do NOT want a realistic driving sim in Split/Second.
