That David Hadju book cover art looks very familiar. Did he work on American Splendor?

Joyswag: Win Guitar Hero III on your platform of choice

Feb 12th 2008 3:26PM (Joystiq)
I'm interested in the Xbox 360 version, and would have to say my favorite guitar solo would have to be...

...the cool ass sound made by Black Sabbath during the solo in the middle of "Paranoid".

Even when digitized for Rock 'N Roll Racing on the SNES or Genesis, it was still BAD ASS!

Way I see it, anything could happen. If not on Adult Swim itself, maybe Super Deluxe.com

Who knows?

Zero Punctuation 'previews' begin on X-Play Feb. 12

Feb 12th 2008 2:07AM (Joystiq)
I've had my fair share of upsets at G4 since the format changed a few years ago, but the new revamped Xplay is something I am giving applause too.

Outside of reviews, X-Play filled it's time with stupid skits, and witty jokes along with the occasional trip to Japan and looking at some of its more whacked out games.

The thing is that you could tell that a lot of this was getting rather BORING for the hosts and staff, especially during summer slumps and times in between games. It would certainly give them a lot of time to do nothing.

And now with the re-vamp, the X-Play hosts get to do a lot more than silly skits and reviews. Now they've got hands-on time with exclusive betas of upcoming titles, interviews in-studio and on-location with some of the big names in game making these days, and frankly...

...BE THE TV SHOW EQUIVALENT OF GAME JOURNALISM THAT MAGAZINES LIKE EGM AND BLOGS LIKE JOYSTIQ ARE!

X-Play is the closest thing to full game coverage off the net, and with the new format it gives them more cool things to do, more chances to do cool things, and interact and talk with some of gaming's biggest names. (Like where Adam Sessler sat down and talked one-on-translator-on-one with Tetsuya Mizuguchi).

With News, Previews, Reviews, Viewer Mail, Behind the Scenes, and even weekly challenges from Mr. Sark, X-Play has become a full blown video-game news channel.

And I only have ONE gripe:

It should be an HOUR long show, not 30 minutes. I often find myself going "Wait, the show's over?" when the 30 minutes is up and keep wishing that I had more show to watch.

(Okay, maybe two gripes since I REALLY don't like Kristin Holt who just comes off as too much of a twit in the Cheat segments)

So to all you naysayers and haters out there, SHAME ON YOU! X-Play has the coverage, interviews, and exclusive footage to make it interesting, relevant, and FUN! On top of that, we still get the reviews we know and love.

So if they get a chance to preview Yahtzee on Tuesdays before the Wednesday review, then I am ALL FOR IT! It helps promote The Escapist, Yahtzee, and Zero Punctuation, while giving X-Play some cool stuff to put on there.

Frankly, I'd love to see Yahtzee work more with X-Play while still doing his own thing. X-Play and Zero Punctuation are both insanely funny, and I think that if the two joined forces and collaborated on some things, the result would be gaming comedy gold.

I Hope.

In the meanwhile, shut up, zip your lips, sit on it, and watch to see what happens.

Okay?

Good.

Joyswag: Burnout Paradise & Prima Game Guide

Feb 6th 2008 2:28PM (Joystiq)
1) I'll take an Xbox 360 version thank you.

2) Best car related scene in a MOVIE, for me, would be one that nobody here has probably mentioned.

At the end of National Lampoon's Vegas Vacation, Chevy Chase has finally gotten his money back and the family is ready to head home after their vacation. It is at THIS very moment that Rusty reveals that while he's been touring Vegas with a fake ID, he has won the family FOUR cars.

Without even flinching, Chevy Chase just takes it all in stride, and assigns each of the kids and his wife a car while taking one for himself. The movie then ends with all four cars driving off into the sunset.

And then suddenly, and SEAMLESSLY, the cars change lanes BETWEEN each other in a kind of family "WHOO-HOO" as expressed by fancy driving.

That would be one of the most memorable car scenes to me.

3) Honorable Mention: While not a movie, nor live-action, I enjoy the car scene in the episode "Double Date" of Justice League Unlimited. Here, the Huntress is trying to assassinate a crime boss under JL protection with the help of The Question. Tracking her down are Green Arrow and Black Canary on Canary's motorcycle, with the Huntress in The Question's sedan.

Trying to lose their followers, the Question drives his car into a train tunnel with the others in pursuit. A horn blares and a train comes into view. Then the Huntress and Question have this exchange:

Huntress: "Train!"

Question: "I see it."

Huntress: "TRAIN!"

Question: "I SEE IT!"

At the last second, the Question drives down a tunnel split off, leaving the train headed right for the Green Arrow and Black Canary.

That exchange, for me, was CLASSIC.

But since it's not a movie, it's a TV-show, and while nothing says against animation... well you know where I'm going.

But I had to get that one out. And if you've never watched Justice League Unlimited, or don't know what happens to the Green Arrow and Black Canary after that, WATCH IT! It reruns on Cartoon Network's Boomerang channel, and if you don't get that, BUY THE DVD SET!

If you haven't watched Batman, Superman, or Justice League since Paul Dini and Bruce Timm began doing these shows in 1992, then you ought to be ashamed of yourself!

Joyswag: Joystiq's Legendary Halo 3 Giveaway

Sep 26th 2007 7:18PM (Joystiq)
Now I've seen some obvious answers here. The usual Master Chief and the Brutes.

And Master Chief has good reason. You have a guy dressed in futuristic Spartan armor come by and tell you to hit him as hard as you can...

...you'd be pretty freaked too!

But if it were me, I'd go with the Grunts.

Why a Grunt?

Because they are ANNOYING!

They'd be like the Gremlins from the Gremlins movies. Running into one of them would be like trying to take out Stripe from the first movie. You'd have to find anything you can to obliterate the bugger. Furthermore, Grunts aren't affected by Sunlight.

Creepy, Crawly, and highly annoying. Grunts are what I'd hate to run into. Any day. Any time.

Fanswag: Win the ultimate Halo 3 setup

Sep 17th 2007 3:12PM (Joystiq Xbox)
You know, I'm actually going to miss the Halo 3 Hype Machine. It's actually been a pretty sweet ride with all the contests, give-aways, promotional tie-ins, new Mountain Dew flavors, and all that good stuff. Once the game's released, all the intensity, action, and eat, sleep, dreaming of Halo 3 will come to a halt.

At least until I plug the game in and login to Xbox Live of course. :)

Still, this Halo 3 buzz has made September one pretty fun month!
