Japanese hardware sales, April 18 - April 24: Compensation edition

May 2nd 2011 12:50AM (Joystiq)
I'm still not sure what people want Sony to do to make them happy. Giving even $10 of store credit is out of the question due to how absolutely expensive that would be for Sony given that 77 million account were compromised (though many of them second or even third accounts for some people). The only thing they really can do is provide users with services and games they offer, since that would cost them much less overall.

Ubisoft calls on the community to reveal next Assassin's Creed game [update]

Can we stop this "like on facebook" shit to have games announced?

The fact that they're making people work to be shown promotional material is ridiculous.

Bring back your favorite Reaverbot for Mega Man Legends 3

@Lerkero

They're doing it to get people interested in the game. It's kind of a necessity given how badly the Legends games usually sell, and the project hasn't even been greenlit yet. Getting people involved means more potential customers which means a greater chance of this game finally being created.

Player run servers that you don't have to purchase from a third-party like Bad Company 2?

Thank you Splash Damage. Thank you.

Mega Man Legends 3 Prototype Version response will determine fate of full game

@Tinkus

But it isn't a demo.

A demo exists for the purpose of selling someone on purchasing a full game, and this just isn't that.

Download numbers for a free demo would mean nothing (and this isn't exactly a demo, as the purpose of a demo is to convince people to buy the full version your game). People can download a demo, but that doesn't mean that they're going to buy your game. Hell, I download a ton of demos for games I know I'm never going to buy. If people buy this alpha build it shows Capcom that they have interest in the Megaman Legends brand.

The chick isn't playable though. It's the red-haired guy you see in the trailer.

Also, it's probably to familiarize newcomers to the Legends universe. A fresh face will have everything explained to him, resulting in less confused people that have no idea why Megaman is currently on the moon.

We can cry that Capcom is 'holding the game hostage' all we want, but at the end of the day we know that making a game is expensive and the Megaman Legends brand has never been an exceedingly high selling property. Capcom kind of needs to do this so they can know if it's worth it to actually invest in this game so that they can see a reasonable return.

It sucks, but it kind of has to happen. The fate of a game resting on the sales of a downloadable title for a brand new handheld that not a lot of people own currently is a dick move though.

Mega Man Legends 3 Prototype Version launching with 3DS eShop

I don't see how this is nickel and diming. Unfortunately the Legends brand hasn't exactly been a best seller for Capcom, and with something like this they can gauge the interest in the title and perhaps finally greenlight the project.

Plus you could also see it as being like the Dead Rising 2 prologue which was a glorified demo, but had different content than the real game.

By conversion rates the game should be about $2-2.50, which is perfectly fine for a price on something like this, given that it's completely different content (I'm guessing) from the main game. It worked well for the pay-for demo of Dead Rising 2 and it'll probably work here too.

Now to find a friend with a 3DS or hope Capcom announces an NGP version of the game at E3.
