This is exactly why I left Joystiq the blog. It is extremely aggravating to read news and feel like I cannot join in on the discussion because the environment is so hostile and not conducive to discussions in the first place. Sexism and racism abounds in the comments. I love the Joystiq guys but I have not been able to bring myself back to a community that isn't ready for women or intelligent discussion.

...I know there are exceptions, and I fell in love with a lot of regulars here, but the rest just got to me.

Wow, has some kind of massive shift occurred while I was gone? Did I accidentally sleep through the biggest internet revolution in the universe? Next, you'll be telling me that black people are esteemed in the highest regard within Youtube comments.

You would never need to bribe me to attend a Joystiq event. My favorite journalists are at those events!

Only Joystiq can handle news about ridiculous fanservice DOA outfits with such poise.

I think what really makes this is the intense glamor video. I felt like I was watching a Victoria's Secret fashion show for electronics.

This is probably the most disturbing Joystiq podcast art I've seen a long, long while. And, DSG placement = clever.

@EvoHelix "Pillow biter," huh? Yeah, I'm sure you have NOTHING against the content. I don't even see how that bigoted term is even relevant here.

I think to an extent it's about American exceptionalism --- the idea that the U.S. is "special" --- but it's also blatantly anti-immigration and xenophobic, which is contrary to this same concept. From what I've seen, I think the message is about the dangers of propaganda, blanket stereotypes, exclusivity, and bigoted hatred of others inspired by fear of the unknown.

@phizzyphizzy My original comment WAS about the article specifically, and that was downranked into oblivion. The rest of the replies were about Joystiq, the site, itself.

Yet redengine's extremely *original* comment was uprated to 3 hearts despite it being entirely irrelevant. Last I checked, people get uprated all the time around here for posting stupid, irrelevant shit.

I just think, as usual, people are being assholes on the internet.
