Win a LaCie Rugged and iPod nano from PowerMax

The last disc I burned was a backup of VMware, which I purchased on Cyber Monday.

So exciting.

Techspansion closes, VisualHub discontinued

This is the very definition of a damn shame. I love Visual Hub. I just used it last night.

I wish Mr. Loch the best. I will miss getting updates to what is, without a doubt, one of the most amusing pieces of useful software ever.

No Blu-ray on Macs... and no one cares

Oct 3rd 2008 10:54AM (TUAW.com)
How is my argument bad? I said exactly what you laid out. Higher quality audio never got off the ground due to the industry in-fighting. Finding SACD and DVD-Audio discs in a brick-and-mortar store is damn near impossible.

Also, having speakers where a CD and an MP3 sound alike means you have REALLY cheap speakers. I have $30 earphones and I can tell the difference. I hardly make enough to be a super-consumer, but I do think that I should spend my hard-earned money on quality, not quantity.

Besides, what about rentals? With the economy flushing down the toilet, I expect to see Netflix and Blockbuster pick up a few more customers who would normally be building a personal library.

No Blu-ray on Macs... and no one cares

Oct 2nd 2008 8:01PM (TUAW.com)
I am starting to think that Blu-Ray is going to end up going the way of Laserdisc -- a technically superior product that ends up being the "Enthusiast" format.

The argument that "DVD is good enough" is no different than "tapes are good enough" compared to CD's. You are absolutely kidding yourself if you think otherwise. As an entertainment medium, Blu-Ray is no more necessary than DVD, but if you have the opportunity for higher quality products, why settle? A Blu-Ray player can be had for less than $300, and HDTV is (almost) affordable.

If HD video had debuted a few years later and without the format war, this might be a very different discussion.

And downloadable video is analogous to downloadable video: it's not bad, but it's not as good as the disc version.

Bungie: Game companies should pocket money from used sales

Sep 27th 2008 7:18AM (Joystiq)
Nonsense. What these people don't realize is that used games help sell new ones, too. I trade in my old games(which become used) to buy new games.

If I can't trade in my games, I can't afford to buy as many new ones. Enjoy shooting yourselves in the foot!

Stephen Colbert brings freedom, 'Charlene' to Rock Band

Poor Stephen Colbert. Is it even possible for him to appear out-of-character in public?

I can get behind still shots, but I can't believe people think heavily-compressed streaming video is a good way to compare graphics.

GC 2008: Peter Moore doesn't want to punish pirates

'So will Moore change his tune and start keelhauling PC pirates? Probably not, since he's "not a huge fan of trying to punish your consumer."'

And yet...

Funny, considering it was just announced that the Mac version of Spore (and other EA games for Mac) will "feature" SecuROM.

What's the deal with Seinfeld doing ads for Microsoft?

Aug 21st 2008 12:17PM (TUAW.com)
... I thought Jerry was a Mac guy. Isn't there a Mac featured prominently in his apartment during the entire run of Seinfeld?
