Sonic fans create the best boycott of all time

Feb 27th 2010 11:27AM (Joystiq)
I think it's ridiculous that this is going on. First off, the "petitioners" aren't real Sonic fans. They are the whiny hardcore Genesis fans that want a game exactly like the Genesis Sonic games. They should grow up and realize that if they wanted a Mega Man 9 type remake with new content and identical graphics to the original game, they are not getting it here. Secondly, I think Sonic needs to be treated with more respect. Mario still gets respect despite a fair share of crappy games (Mario is Missing, Mario CDi games, Mario Party, etc.), so I don't see why Sonic should be treated so badly. Thirdly, cry me a river Joystiq. You constantly bash and badmouth Sonic, and try to pass as a gaming news site. Look, what is your vendetta against Sonic? Just because the later games haven't appealed to you doesn't mean you have any right to bash Sonic. There are plenty of people who liked Sonic Heroes and Sonic Unleashed. Where's that "we hate Sonic" news post? I'm tired of all of the hate, and simply put, there shouldn't be any hate, because Sonic is one of the most famous gaming mascots out there along with Mario. There's a reason why he is still popular, and NO, it isn't because his "games are crappy". Sonic '06 was a mistake, but do you have to constantly ram it down our throat that that game sucked? We get it already, it sucked! Enough using it as a scapegoat to say that the entire Sonic series sucks. In fact, the only "sucky" games are Sonic '06 and Shadow the Hedgehog. The Wii games don't count since they are spin-off titles.

Here's the real problem though. The entire Sonic community (and this gaming site) are stuck in a world of too much expectations. They think that the current Sonic Team can create another killer app as in Sonic Adventure with every Sonic game that is produced. Although the games are fun and stuff, the fans feel disappointed because it isn't "perfect". This perfectionist attitude is what is ruining the community. How about shut up for a second, actually sit down and play the Sonic games you hate (Sonic Heroes, Sonic Unleashed), and actually give them a chance. Seriously, I had fun with Sonic Heroes and Unleashed. If this site weren't so blindly attached to Nintendo and Mario, maybe there wouldn't be a post like this.

My opinion is that the leaked footage on Sonic Retro was beta footage. It's not a finished version of the game. But yet, this site couldn't wait to jump on the bandwagon of Sonic hate and post about some people being annoyed that the game is like Sonic Advance/Sonic Rush. Umm, what? Sonic Rush was one of the best reviewed Sonic games of the past 5 years. If Sonic 4 plays like that that's actually a GOOD THING! Sonic Rush was a great evolution of the classic 2D gameplay, and I believe it'll work great in Sonic 4.

Sony wipes out interfering ad from WipEout HD

Aug 4th 2009 11:51AM (Joystiq)
Yeah, ozymoronx420, why doesn't Joystiq write about the annoying ads on Xbox Live? I mean, it's a PAID subscription to play online and yet they still have the audacity to stuff ads down my throat every time I turn on my Xbox 360 and it goes to the "Spotlight" section. It might as well be renamed the "Advertisement" section. Enough is enough. I pay for Xbox Live and since I paid for it I expect there to be no ads, since Microsoft makes more than enough revenue on Xbox Live Gold Memberships to not have ads in their system.

Yet, there still are ads. This is the worst thing to EVER come to video games, because if I have to pay $50 a year just to get stuffed with more ads, I'm just going to cancel Xbox Live and just get one month/three month cards if I wanted to play online. I'm surprised no one has even spoke up about the ads on Xbox Live yet.

Overdue: Sega to fix Sonic the Hedgehog 'over time'

Jul 30th 2009 6:36PM (Joystiq)
Sonic the Hedgehog does not need to be "fixed". The only thing that needs to be fixed is the blatant bashing on every gaming website out there. I know that all these sites prefer Mario and are just angry that Sega still makes Sonic games for that matter, because they have always preferred Nintendo. It's the truth.

Oh wait, I know, maybe Mario should be "fixed" over time to get rid of all of his sidekicks! Mario's been long overdue for a true sequel to Super Mario 64, please none of this Galaxy stuff. Sega has only released a main Sonic game every few years and they have done quite well in my opinion. If you don't like to play Sonic games, don't play them. If you don't like the direction Sonic is going in, well don't follow. Everyone is just being hypocrites, because I guarantee you if Sega released a 3D/2D sequel to Sonic 3/Sonic and Knuckles critics will bash it for being "too short" and "lacking innovation". Yet Nintendo's doing the same thing with Mario Galaxy 2, just expanding on the original Mario Galaxy, and critics wlll most likely sing high praises for it. Don't act like some "professional" and proclaim "Sonic is dead" and crap like that. Sonic is Sega's mascot and he will never die, he's the main guy to go to for getting tons of revenue for Sega, he's the one that can be counted on as well, just like Mario. Mario hasn't died out either, and neither will Sonic. I mean, at least they aren't planning on releasing four new Mario games in the next year or two. The next Sonic game hasn't even been announced yet. So I think Sega's taking their time on this one.

The only thing Sega needs to do is to release another Sonic game and tailor it to both hardcore fans and casual fans. Mix some of the new and the old into the game, and there you go. But whining and complaining about Sonic being "dead" is so stupid, when the most recent games have still sold well. I think Mario's getting the preferential treatment here.

GameStop CEO reckons there 'will have to be price cuts' for Wii, PS3

May 22nd 2009 1:02PM (Joystiq)
Wii definitely needs a price cut before I will be willing to buy it. But, seeing as Nintendo has all the money in the world right now, I don't expect them to drop the price and they will continue to sell their system at the slightly overpriced $250. $250 is a bit much for a system that only has graphics slightly better than an Original Xbox. I can tell that sales for the Wii have dropped slightly, because you can actually find one in stores now! If Nintendo wanted even more profits they could drop the price, but seeing as unsuspecting people are constantly being suckered in by the Wii currently, that won't happen for a long time.

It's a shame, really, I want to play games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but the system just has to be $250 and Nintendo has to gouge you for extra controllers ($60 total for one extra controller, including the nunchuk and remote) bringing the total cost of the system above an Xbox 360. I've lost all faith in Nintendo due to their obvious price gouging on the controllers, and the Wii system in general.

Nintendo launching DSi in North America on April 5

Feb 18th 2009 9:12AM (Joystiq)
Wow, what a waste of time by Nintendo. This whole re-releasing business is reminding me how Sega constantly tried to increase the life of the Sega Genesis by adding the CD and 32X add-ons. Nintendo is trying to do the same with the DS, instead of releasing add-ons they are constantly re-releasing the DS hardware. I guess since they have so much money they can trick people into buying the same system three times (the DS) with only minimal new features. The DS Lite was fine, but this new DSi is just ridiculous. Sadly, it will probably sell out, regardless of the fact that this is a waste of time and money.

DS Daily: $179.99

Jan 18th 2009 12:47PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I think the DSi is just a waste of time from Nintendo. They could of made a full featured, more powerful handheld. But, the big N decides to take the easy way out and re-release the DS-Lite AGAIN. Guess they are needing more money. I personally am sick of Nintendo re-releasing their handhelds, it's gotten pretty ridiculous. Even if the "new" features are worthwhile, like the camera and it's own version of WiiWare, no GBA slot makes this particular version of the DS-Lite a questionable purchase. The sad thing is that everyone will buy this up in a heartbeat without realizing that Nintendo has scammed you out of $180 for the same system with a little new features. I'm sticking with my good ol' original DS from 2004.

Metareview -- Sonic Unleashed (360 vs. Wii)

Nov 26th 2008 11:39PM (Joystiq)
...And the mainstream Sonic hate continues. Seriously, SEGA deserves better than this. Sonic Heroes was actually fun, if not more fun than Sonic Adventure 1 and 2.

Seeing reviews like this blasting the game and not even giving it a chance (sites are probably too busy playing Halo and Gears of War 2 to even care about this game) makes me want to punch them in their face. I'm not a crazy fanboy, but I like Sonic, and it saddens me to see this blatant bias and hate in the mainstream gaming media against anything and everything Sonic. It just feels like the entire gaming media gave up after SEGA went software-only and after Sonic Adventure 2 was released. News flash: there are actually good Sonic games after Sonic Adventure 2! Joystiq seems to be completely ignoring the release of Sonic Heroes (which has garnered average to above average reviews, and Gamespot gave the game an 8, which is surprising given how harsh they are on games).

I feel like Sonic gets unjustly treated in comparison to Mario, who gets the royal treatment no matter what. Whenever Mario does something new, like Mario Kart, everyone praises Nintendo. When SEGA tries a similar path and creates Sonic Riders, everyone slams it to the floor and doesn't give it a chance. Reviews shouldn't impact how a game sales, it should be the consumer's opinion that matters. If you like the game, you enjoy it. If you hate it, that's fine. But totally bashing a game just because of the name relation (Sonic) is unjust and just proves how worthless professional reviews are in gaming today.

SEGA needs some actual encouragement from the fans themselves that this Hedgehog Engine is the way to go, and that the next game should be built upon this engine. It fixed most, if not all the problems that previous Sonic 3D games have had in design (camera problems, etc.), and SEGA should make another Sonic game. SEGA shouldn't listen to these reviewers, and keep making Sonic games that they know both the new and old Sonic fan will like, despite reviews. Now, I know I will probably get blasted for this, but this is the truth, and if you aren't willing to accept the truth, then go somewhere else and whine and complain about how Sonic still sucks. Because I've had it with this blatant hate, both on this site and any other site. What's next, a "Top 10 reasons why Sonic Sucks" article? Joystiq as a whole hates Sonic, and whether it be on this article, or even on unrelated articles, they always find a way to bash the blue hedgehog. Pretty pathetic if you ask me. Why don't they write a whole "why we hate Sonic" article, to explain this blatant bias? Oh wait, they won't because they are cowards. Oh well, I'll go to another site for my gaming news.

Sonic Unleashed trailer is half the game we want

Nov 4th 2008 12:52AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
The blatant Sonic hate continues on this site...what's next, a "top 10 reasons Sonic sucks" article? This has to be one of the most biased things I have ever read. This isn't surprising, given that the entire mainstream gaming media hates Sonic the Hedgehog. Seriously, give Sonic a chance instead of constantly bashing him. I swear, if Sega makes a Sonic 1-3 remake and reviewers STILL bash it for not having too much "variety", or something else is wrong, then you people are hypocrites. Yet people complain when Sega tries to do something slighty different in the game. So what if he turns into a Werehog? I'm thinking more along the lines of it being like a bonus stage or whatever. I think a good portion of the game is being devoted to classic Sonic gameplay. I really don't care about the Werehog stages anyways. If you don't like this game, don't buy it, and don't waste your time complaining about it, because it's not going to make it any better for anyone else.

Acti planning Guitar Hero: Metallica for Q1 2009

Jun 3rd 2008 10:25AM (Joystiq Xbox)
Joystiq, you guys complain about Activison "milking the franchise dry", what else are they supposed to to? You want them to just release one GH game every year? Or do you want them to release a game and not release another one for two-five years? You don't call every yearly edition of Madden "milking". I think you guys are just biased against Guitar Hero, due to the fact that it's as popular as ever and it's selling well. You know what? I've figured out that this whole site is biased against anything Guitar Hero and Sonic the Hedgehog. Given the overly negative posts that constantly pop up on this site whenever a new Guitar Hero or Sonic is mentioned, it just makes me sick that you can even keep an objective stance on things when you get gaming news before Gamespot, IGN, etc. Who could blame Activision for trying out a new direction in the series with GH Metallica and GH World Tour? As long as there is 1 or 2 GH games every so often, I don't see what's the big deal here. I wouldn't call it "milking" the franchise. As long as it turns out to be a good, quality product, that's all that matters. If it was pure junk, though, then I would agree on using that sort of a term. How many times has Mario been milked? He's been in hundreds of different spinoff's and crap and yet you don't call that "milking"? Give me a break.
