Sonic fans create the best boycott of all time
Feb 27th 2010 11:27AM (Joystiq)Here's the real problem though. The entire Sonic community (and this gaming site) are stuck in a world of too much expectations. They think that the current Sonic Team can create another killer app as in Sonic Adventure with every Sonic game that is produced. Although the games are fun and stuff, the fans feel disappointed because it isn't "perfect". This perfectionist attitude is what is ruining the community. How about shut up for a second, actually sit down and play the Sonic games you hate (Sonic Heroes, Sonic Unleashed), and actually give them a chance. Seriously, I had fun with Sonic Heroes and Unleashed. If this site weren't so blindly attached to Nintendo and Mario, maybe there wouldn't be a post like this.
My opinion is that the leaked footage on Sonic Retro was beta footage. It's not a finished version of the game. But yet, this site couldn't wait to jump on the bandwagon of Sonic hate and post about some people being annoyed that the game is like Sonic Advance/Sonic Rush. Umm, what? Sonic Rush was one of the best reviewed Sonic games of the past 5 years. If Sonic 4 plays like that that's actually a GOOD THING! Sonic Rush was a great evolution of the classic 2D gameplay, and I believe it'll work great in Sonic 4.
Sony wipes out interfering ad from WipEout HD
Aug 4th 2009 11:51AM (Joystiq)Yet, there still are ads. This is the worst thing to EVER come to video games, because if I have to pay $50 a year just to get stuffed with more ads, I'm just going to cancel Xbox Live and just get one month/three month cards if I wanted to play online. I'm surprised no one has even spoke up about the ads on Xbox Live yet.
Overdue: Sega to fix Sonic the Hedgehog 'over time'
Jul 30th 2009 6:36PM (Joystiq)Oh wait, I know, maybe Mario should be "fixed" over time to get rid of all of his sidekicks! Mario's been long overdue for a true sequel to Super Mario 64, please none of this Galaxy stuff. Sega has only released a main Sonic game every few years and they have done quite well in my opinion. If you don't like to play Sonic games, don't play them. If you don't like the direction Sonic is going in, well don't follow. Everyone is just being hypocrites, because I guarantee you if Sega released a 3D/2D sequel to Sonic 3/Sonic and Knuckles critics will bash it for being "too short" and "lacking innovation". Yet Nintendo's doing the same thing with Mario Galaxy 2, just expanding on the original Mario Galaxy, and critics wlll most likely sing high praises for it. Don't act like some "professional" and proclaim "Sonic is dead" and crap like that. Sonic is Sega's mascot and he will never die, he's the main guy to go to for getting tons of revenue for Sega, he's the one that can be counted on as well, just like Mario. Mario hasn't died out either, and neither will Sonic. I mean, at least they aren't planning on releasing four new Mario games in the next year or two. The next Sonic game hasn't even been announced yet. So I think Sega's taking their time on this one.
The only thing Sega needs to do is to release another Sonic game and tailor it to both hardcore fans and casual fans. Mix some of the new and the old into the game, and there you go. But whining and complaining about Sonic being "dead" is so stupid, when the most recent games have still sold well. I think Mario's getting the preferential treatment here.
GameStop CEO reckons there 'will have to be price cuts' for Wii, PS3
May 22nd 2009 1:02PM (Joystiq)It's a shame, really, I want to play games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but the system just has to be $250 and Nintendo has to gouge you for extra controllers ($60 total for one extra controller, including the nunchuk and remote) bringing the total cost of the system above an Xbox 360. I've lost all faith in Nintendo due to their obvious price gouging on the controllers, and the Wii system in general.

Jan 18th 2009 12:47PM (Joystiq Nintendo)Metareview -- Sonic Unleashed (360 vs. Wii)
Nov 26th 2008 11:39PM (Joystiq)Seeing reviews like this blasting the game and not even giving it a chance (sites are probably too busy playing Halo and Gears of War 2 to even care about this game) makes me want to punch them in their face. I'm not a crazy fanboy, but I like Sonic, and it saddens me to see this blatant bias and hate in the mainstream gaming media against anything and everything Sonic. It just feels like the entire gaming media gave up after SEGA went software-only and after Sonic Adventure 2 was released. News flash: there are actually good Sonic games after Sonic Adventure 2! Joystiq seems to be completely ignoring the release of Sonic Heroes (which has garnered average to above average reviews, and Gamespot gave the game an 8, which is surprising given how harsh they are on games).
I feel like Sonic gets unjustly treated in comparison to Mario, who gets the royal treatment no matter what. Whenever Mario does something new, like Mario Kart, everyone praises Nintendo. When SEGA tries a similar path and creates Sonic Riders, everyone slams it to the floor and doesn't give it a chance. Reviews shouldn't impact how a game sales, it should be the consumer's opinion that matters. If you like the game, you enjoy it. If you hate it, that's fine. But totally bashing a game just because of the name relation (Sonic) is unjust and just proves how worthless professional reviews are in gaming today.
SEGA needs some actual encouragement from the fans themselves that this Hedgehog Engine is the way to go, and that the next game should be built upon this engine. It fixed most, if not all the problems that previous Sonic 3D games have had in design (camera problems, etc.), and SEGA should make another Sonic game. SEGA shouldn't listen to these reviewers, and keep making Sonic games that they know both the new and old Sonic fan will like, despite reviews. Now, I know I will probably get blasted for this, but this is the truth, and if you aren't willing to accept the truth, then go somewhere else and whine and complain about how Sonic still sucks. Because I've had it with this blatant hate, both on this site and any other site. What's next, a "Top 10 reasons why Sonic Sucks" article? Joystiq as a whole hates Sonic, and whether it be on this article, or even on unrelated articles, they always find a way to bash the blue hedgehog. Pretty pathetic if you ask me. Why don't they write a whole "why we hate Sonic" article, to explain this blatant bias? Oh wait, they won't because they are cowards. Oh well, I'll go to another site for my gaming news.
