Assassin's Creed II DLC was cut from main game due to time constraints

Dec 22nd 2009 9:40PM (Joystiq)
The big misconception here is that people seem to think that the final goal for a game is static during it's development. Things are constantly changing, things are being added, other things are being removed. A lot of people are mad at Capcom for selling multi player for RE5 as DLC. If they announced that they didn't intent for multi player to be in the retail launch of the game and that they didn't start working on implementing it until after the game hit the shelves, would that mean that they we're justified in charging extra for multi player?

Ubisoft announced back when AC1 was being developed that they were planning AC1 to be the first game in a trilogy.. is that unreasonable? Since they obviously already planned the following games before even launching the first game.. shouldn't they by the logic of some posters also offer AC2 and a future AC3 free of charge.. since they started working on it / planning it before launching AC1?

Assassin's Creed II DLC was cut from main game due to time constraints

Pretty much every game you're ever going to buy will most likely have had something cut. the initial design and concept documents for games normally contain a lot more concepts, ideas, events, weapons, levels etc. than what makes it into the final game. You pretty much always have to cut features and elements to fit the budget and the deadline.

Gamers do not have some kind of inherent right to the ideas that got scrapped, no matter what the reason for removing these things were. It's up to the developers what they want to add to the game and it's up to you if you want to buy it.

AC2 is already a HUGE game. 20+ hours to play though it? Huge world? Well told story? A huge number of side quests and additional events? And yet somehow that's not enough simply because the developers had to keep themselves within a budget and a meet a deadline?!

The game is well worth it's retail price (Unlike many titles released). Why in the world do you feel entitled to even more?

Current takes on homophobia in gaming

Sep 24th 2008 4:00PM (Joystiq)
@Immortal Tech.

By that definition most of what humans do is unnatural. There is nothing natural in the concept of government on nationalism. Religion as a whole would be unnatural, the concept of no sex until marriage would certainly be unnatural.

It's true that we'll certainly never 'remove' homophobia or racism. I'm also sure we'll never remove murder, child rapist, kidnappers, suicide bombers or terrorists. However that doesn't mean that we should simply accept opinions and behaviors that are deliberately aimed at hurting other human beings.

Killing other is a natural impulse, by your logic does that mean we should legalize murder?

You don't have to like homosexuals or blacks or people with long hair or.. whatever. But what is and should be expect of you is that you don't attempt to hurt, insult or humiliate them.

As for the topic more specifically, idiots on voice chat. I think it's something of a problem that so many you people are 'allowed' to run amok the way the essentially are. Kids are kids. If you left a 8-10 grade kids to their own devices in the school yard without at least a basic level of supervision it would quickly devolve to the same as we're seeing or worse.

UK's Halifax bank denies WoW charges

Feb 18th 2008 3:51PM (Joystiq)
I believe the reason for this is due to credit farmers. A regular approach for the farmers is to 'buy' copies of the game in question and then refute the charge. Since this takes a handful of days to go through they can essentially buy 20-30 copies of a game abuse them for a weeks time and then refute the charges.

John Smedly (CEO of Sony Online Entertainment) recently made some comments about it in an interview, describing it as causing several million dolloars worth of fines and fees for both the mmo company and the banks.

Microsft confirms no bans for playing Halo 3 [update]

Sep 19th 2007 12:22PM (Joystiq)
I'm kinda sceptical about the legality of this. Unless there's a clear label on the box that warns you not to use this disk until a given date, banning someone .. I dunnno.. I'm no lawyer.

However I think the main reason for MS doing this is not so much to attempt to run around and beat people with a ban stick but rather an attampt to try and discourage people from getting / playing the game early.

If this announcement spreads it could help stop people from getting scammed by people selling 'that only real copy of halo 3' on Ebay for an obscene amount of money. It might help keep store workers from 'slipping an early copy' to their friends. In short making people hesitant to use the game early could make the situation easier to control for MS
