Levine: Occupy Wall Street and tea party mirror revolution in BioShock Infinite
Oct 28th 2011 7:57PM (Joystiq)Indeed. The world is already packed with plenty of sources of facile dorm-room-style political philosophizing. I don't need any in my video games, nor do I need any in my video games coverage. And when you strip away the silly veneer of social commentary from Bioshock, you're left with a mediocre shooter with a very cool setting. I suspect history will repeat itself.

May 5th 2011 1:48PM (Joystiq)In the end, I'm glad that Rage's earlier release window forced Gearbox to change their game. Had they played it serious and dark, Borderlands wouldn't have been as fun for me as it turned out to be.

Apr 20th 2011 10:06PM (Joystiq)PC-developed games are more technologically sophisticated, but they are less profitable, and require a higher financial investment by the player to enjoy them. Console-developed games are not so technologically sophisticated, are way more profitable, and require a lower financial investment by the player to enjoy them. Those are the facts, and regardless of whether you prefer one platform over the other for game X, they really aren't up for debate, so why all the forum combat?
People drive cards; some people are automotive enthusiasts and really like to discuss cars. Do you see Internet forums where Porsche drivers and Volkswagen drivers argue the relative merits of their platforms? No.
Porsche drivers had decided that they want to spend more money to maximize their enjoyment of the driving experience, all the while knowing that US highways really aren't built to accommodate their potential, and understanding that the average consumer has neither the interest nor the funds to drive a Porsche.
Volkswagen drivers enjoy their vehicles, are fine with the limitations placed upon them with respect to the Porsche, and I doubt they make insipid arguments that Volkswagens are "better' because they're cheaper and more popular.
Yes, to some degree it's a shame we're not all driving Porsches on the Autobahn, and if we did, maybe we'd see a new generation of transportation infrastructure which would be more fun, but it's not realistic, so what's the point in hoping that it will happen? Conversely, why would you argue that highways full of Volkswagens are somehow "better" than highways filled with Porsches?
I suppose I really do know the answer: that people want to justify the platform that they've invested in. But that's just idiotic, isn't it?
