Risen 2: Dark Waters teaser is all about pirates, see

@economypear It has: Fable 2.

Risen 2: Dark Waters teaser is all about pirates, see

Apr 18th 2011 1:09AM (Joystiq)
@Assmar Then allow me to rave about it. I just played Risen for the first time last month, and after ~45 hours, I can tell you that it's the best RPG I've played in years. Very much like Oblivion, but more a bit tighter all around (combat, quests, etc.). One of those games that really convinces you that you can go anywhere and do anything, without leaving you aimless. The demo really doesn't do it justice, however, as it ends right before the game starts getting interesting. Mind you, I played this on PC, and have heard that the 360 port was pretty terrible.

Battlefield 3 trailer ends with a crash, bang, drop

Apr 15th 2011 3:37PM (Joystiq)
@Crimsic I think that the rig I'm going to build for Battlefield 3 will be powerful enough to alter the time/space continuum. So I guess I better get to NewEgg sooner than later.

Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls finds a home on PSN

Mar 24th 2011 5:10PM (Joystiq)
Initial reaction: excitement, since Wizardry 8 is one of my favorite RPGs of all time. Then I looked at the screenshots, and I'm getting the impression that this is much less a Wizardry-style classic RPG and more likely a Wizardry-branded, Etrian Odyssey knock-off. The former is a deep, character-driven, narratively rich experience, while the latter is a shallow, combat-driven, repetitious dungeon crawler. I hope I'm wrong, as I would be extremely happy to see another addition to the Wizardry series which is worthy of the name.

The Gamerator: An arcade cabinet with a built-in tap and refrigerator

Feb 12th 2011 1:57PM (Joystiq)
@Drakkenfyre Yes, you can definitely make one of these things a hell of a lot cheaper than $3500. I built my MAME cabinet years ago, spending about $800 on materials and maybe 40 man-hours on construction. Of course, mine didn't include a kegerator, but I would imagine you could add one for around $500. I don't think it's worth another $2k to get one that is pre-built. I'd rather take that dough and buy a pinball machine.

Double Dragon iPhone remake due out in March

"Abobo-minable?" Looks like someone is trying to out-bad-pun Ludwig. Just remember, "the pun is the stench of a decaying mind."

Bethesda releases fresh Skyrim concept art

@PerfectCyanide Yeah, that's what I see, too. The whole internet keeps calling it squid-bear or some such, though. I'm confused.

Battlefield 3 targeting Fall 2011, teaser trailer out now

Feb 4th 2011 4:08PM (Joystiq)
@satn Actually, I hope it's more (BF2 + BC2 engine) and less (BF2 - (everything hardcore gamers love about the BF series)). I haven't read any in-depth articles, so maybe I'm worrying about nothing, but if the Commander feature goes away, or if there is more consolized movement in the BC2 direction, I'll be really disappointed. BF2 with a new coat of paint, some balance improvements, and a cooler progression system is really all I want.

'The Nintendo Project': Deep thoughts inspired by NES games

Jan 27th 2011 1:47AM (Joystiq)
@MNeko Last boss??? I'm impressed. I've tried to play this game many times over the years (via emulators), and I've never been able to figure out what the hell is going on from the first level. I recall killer gorillas and a pistol, but I'm baffled about what on earth you're supposed to _do_ in the game. Still, I'm strangely drawn to keep trying it again.

Homefront trailer introduces New America's new rulers

Dec 14th 2010 7:39PM (Joystiq)
This looks like a very good game, but this game doesn't _look_ very good. I hope this trailer is using placeholder textures and models, because everything looks like a 360 launch title. Given that publishers use the best graphics they can in videos, and there are only 3 months before release, I'm not thinking this is the case, however. Graphics aren't everything of course, but when they're this bad, they can be pretty distracting.
