Porsche makes its Forza 4 debut in May

Mar 5th 2012 1:24PM (Joystiq)
@arkweld
I'm pretty sure most people can tell the difference between a 911, 914, 924, 928, Carrera GT, 959, 356, Boxster, Panamera, Cayman, and Cayenne. And those are just the production models off the top of my head. You might not know about them but there are also 718, 904, 908, 917, 956, Group B 959, 935, 550 Spyder, etc. The race cars you never see on the street. I even tried to keep out the derivative cars that are similar to other cars, like the 912, 944, 968, and race derivatives.

Just because the 911 is the best seller doesn't mean its the only Porsche.

Sony issues more court documents in hacking case, GeoHot's lawyer responds

@ObiAlKenobi That's a broad statement. Not everything bears a EULA; and most things don't need EULAs. EULAs have also gotten worse over time, stretching to protect future interests of the manufacturer. The OtherOS feature doesn't mean something to everyone, but to take it away after the fact is a little disingenuous when the device has a specific upfront cost. Would you be upset if they removed the PS/2 compatibility with an update?

Major Nelson: Xbox 360 sold out in Dec., supply tight now

Jan 13th 2011 11:59AM (Joystiq)
@Lerkero It depends on the market maybe. I was in Walmart on Tuesday and did the stroll through the electronics dept. They had no stock on 360 consoles or Wii consoles. They had three 160GB PS3s and a couple of stand-alone Kinects though. This is in Dallas.

GameFly reveals the 'most requested' games of 2010

Jan 7th 2011 3:34PM (Joystiq)
@eescala7 Games without on-line multiplayer sell less because you can resell them when you finish the game and not miss much. That means that a single copy from the publisher is probably use a couple of times and still have the same effect. CODs, Halos, and MOHs sell more because you need the disc to play on-line. Add to that ME2 was essentially platform specific for the majority of the year and the numbers would be small compared to the huge multi-platform, multi-player blockbusters you're talking about.

Pachter predicts $100 'Platinum' Xbox Live membership

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze You aren't really familiar with how satellite service works I guess. Or the two year commitment you make on your cellphone plan. You're paying for the hardware over the term of your contract.

This idea is a little more frightening I think. What if Microsoft sold you xbox live service on a two year contract for $30/month that included an xbox720. I think that's the next step since Live is more valuable to MS than the hardware. Hell, they could just offer a service like OnLive, I'm sure the 360 could handle that if the bandwidth was available.

Xbox Live subscription prices to rise; $60 for 1 year beginning in Nov. [update]

Aug 30th 2010 2:53PM (Joystiq)
@T Crespo That's fair, Xbox Live is a value proposition and when there are free alternatives paying something takes a little more of a value justification.

I understand why you think that multiple gamertags should be covered under one cost, and if gamertags were hardware locked or use locked I would agree. Since the majority of the value in a gamertag comes from on-line play I don't think Microsoft wants to give you more for the same amount of money, ie you and your friends get to play online for one price.

Although as I mentioned above, the "Family Plan" has a lot more value if you don't have any new or unusual account restrictions as a result of the plan. This way four people can work together to lower costs.

@T Crespo You're asking me to make a value proposition. From a value standpoint $50/year was a good value for the xbox live system including friends, ease of use, and in game functionality. I even like the voice features, despite what value other people put on this.

Would it be great if the initial price of entry let me have multiple gamertags? Yes, but that was never a feature that was taken away.

I'm happy with what I get for now for the price I pay for it, otherwise I wouldn't be paying for it.

Separately from what I value xbox live at, why do you think you should get multiple gamertags for the single price you pay?

I'm not trying to poke you or pick a fight, I'm just interested in what you think Live is missing for what you pay.
