Platform: 360.

My parents and girlfriend find the violence acceptable, but then again, all they really play with me is Rock Band and Wii Sports...

Joyswag: Win Grand Theft Auto IV on your platform of choice [Day 2]

May 2nd 2008 5:30AM (Joystiq)
Platform: Xbox 360.
Activity: I was always a big fan of doing strafing runs in my attack chopper down the main drag in Las Venturas. Bullets for pedestrians, rockets for cars. Nothing quite like cutting a swath of destruction through a major tourist destination!

Gamestop manager busts retail myths

Nov 7th 2007 12:34PM (Joystiq)
I've been to a variety of EB/GS stores, with varying success. I've been badgered for pre-orders before; I had to say no to reserving Madden for each and every console before he would stop. Before the Wii came out, and I was looking into pre-ordering at a local EB, the guy behind the counter said they probably weren't going to be doing pre-orders. When I commented that it sucked for those of us that have to work and can't stand in line, he essentially told me, "Sucks for you, I'll be getting one." And there have been the occasional issues with the employees talking to each other and seemingly not noticing me right in front of the counter.

Thankfully, most of the jerks left my favorite local store, and since a former co-worker/friend of mine works there now, I feel more comfortable walking in there. I still think that their policies are awful, but if I want a game that might be a little more obscure, I'll go there. The fact that my Barnes & Noble employee discount works at GameStop doesn't hurt, either, but I don't really like walking into random EB/GS stores because it always seems to be a crapshoot.

Rock Band impressions ... from a Best Buy kiosk

Nov 6th 2007 12:05AM (Joystiq)
How can you even compare Drummania to Rock Band's drumming? Drummania, and Guitar Freaks, for that matter, are more interested in having hard notecharts that aren't very faithful to the original songs. Guitar Hero and Rock Band are more interested in a faithful reproduction of the song's actual notes, at least as accurate as you can get with five fret buttons and a strum bar, or four drum pads and a bass pedal.

Not to mention, there's the inevitable "cool factor" to be had for US music fans, getting to play some of their favorite songs, as opposed to relatively obscure (in the US at least) J-Pop and J-Rock.

New Guitar Hero II DLC adds Trivium, Atreyu and Protest the Hero

Custom Guitar Hero 2, at least on the PS2, has progressed a long way. You can customize the set list names, which hero/guitar you use in Quick Play, add different fret boards, change the loading screen messages, etc.

I've got a half-completed custom job sitting around on my hard drive. I should get back to it at some point.
