Square Enix cut a game's worth of content from Final Fantasy XIII

Jan 13th 2010 8:35PM (Joystiq)
@Debikul

You think Mistwalker and SE share the same situation? I wouldn't hesitate to guess that Mistwalker was let of the hook for having so many discs. You do something exclusively for Microsoft's console, a JRPG no less (when there were very few on the console and I'm sure they were planning on stealing Sony's JRPG fanbase a bit with Lost Odyssey), you'll reap some benefits. One of those benefits was the fee (discounted or not even there) for the amount of discs used. It's a common thing for MS to give slack to their first party and exclusive 3rd party game developers.

Your logic makes little sense to a company trying to make a profit. They aren't going to throw money away if they don't need to.

Xbox by the numbers: 20m Xbox Live users, 10m nongaming, 39m Xbox 360 consoles worldwide

29 PS3 games, 6 360 games for this generation, and... 122 steam games. lol. A lot of those came in bundles though (like the id pack). I honestly cannot find more 360 games I'd enjoy (I buy multiplatform games on PS3), if a 360 game is on PC, I'll buy it for PC usually (ie. Mass Effect). So far I've picked up Halo 3, ODST, Gears 1+2, Lost Odyssey and Perfect Dark Zero (bleh).

Eco-Box: a greener way to protect games

Dec 1st 2009 3:34PM (Joystiq)
Yeah. This eco friendly stuff is bullshit. The environment is just fine, companies are just realizing that being "eco friendly" can save money. There's places you can by regular cases, including the green ones, so if you really don't like these new ones you can do that.

Metareview: Left 4 Dead 2

Yep, they should have just posted in the steam forums where all the other complaints are posted.

Review: Left 4 Dead 2 (Xbox 360)

Nov 20th 2009 10:32AM (Joystiq)
I personally disagree with these statements about the difficulty. And I would hazard a guess that the reviewer and his friends are indeed, bad at the game. Linking a handful of complaints about the game is hardly proof that the game is too difficult. So some guys ran into 2 tanks on easy.. i bet this is a very uncommon scenario, and to be honest, tanks take very little to take down on easy, maybe 2 or 3 clips from an automatic. There are other ways to take them down as well, light them on fire and run, or throw boomer bile at them. Hell, 2 friends and I beat a tank down easily on normal with only melee weapons and got the achievement. We incap'd the bot to prevent them from shooting the tank to get the achievement as well. While we played L4D together we aren't a well knit team really, each of us going around on our own without too many problems.

Like its been said a few times, this is not a review, this is a complaint about one aspect of the game. Pretty sad.

Petition for dedicated servers in Modern Warfare 2 growing rapidly

I doubt that will convince them to not release on PC. They still sell a couple million on PC at the very least, and that is a lot of money.

Bethesda production director says MS 'totally bungled' ODST marketing

Sep 22nd 2009 7:00PM (Joystiq)
Tilo... its the same goddamn engine. They even mention themselves that its the Halo 3 engine. They haven't added enough features to give it a full version increment. IE going from v3 to v4. So, its considered the same engine. That's how it works.

Turbine: Easier to develop MMOs on the Xbox 360 than the PS3

Sep 21st 2009 8:27AM (Joystiq)
Well, the whole 256mb vs 512mb argument is wrong. PS3 has 256mb main memory, and 256mb video memory. 360 has 512 main and video shared, which means both the videocard and the cpu share this memory. So if one needs more than 256 and its available, it can use some extra memory, but the other device now has less memory available to it. That's the advantage. So, technically speaking they both have the same amount of memory.

Why Uncharted 2 couldn't work on Xbox 360

Aug 27th 2009 1:04PM (Joystiq)
Your argument for memory requirements is wrong, and it has nothing to do with your math. You use something called texture streaming, in fact, many 360 games use that. Ever notice texture pop-in on 360 games, eg. Mass Effect? Prime example of streaming textures. UE3 games use it, older engines use it too, its very common.
