The Tattered Notebook: Why Velious is so important

Jan 24th 2011 5:40PM (Massively)
I agree completely, but with this station cash nonsense I'm really having my doubts. Kunark in eq2 was already so tiny compared to the old one, and now velious, an expansion twice as big, has to deal with an even smaller dev team and 50% focus on station crap. I really enjoyed eq2 for the few years I played. The lore/world is much stronger than anything wow could offer.

I just wish SoE would focus more on getting people to play the game than nickle and diming their current subscribers. That marketplace is getting way too much attention.

Darkfall activity report hints at game-changing expansion

I had a blast in this game when It was new and there were people everywhere. But after about 2 months the population really started to die off. The game revolves so much around other players that having no one around really makes it pointless.

I tried heading back with one of my rl friends on a trial account to see what everyone was doing, and outside of a handful of small guilds running around, the game was even worst than when i left it.

It's a shame too.. the game really had some awesome potential.

Maybe if they throw it on steam or something it would garner some interest. Those 300vs300 sieges were way too amazing to not have a future.

EverQuest II Destiny of Velious trailer released

I'd be excited if half the "content" wasn't shoved into the station cash market place.

I'll stick with wow. EQ2 was fun for a few years but their current direction is absolute garbage.

The Daily Grind: Would you play on a progression server?

Jan 18th 2011 3:23PM (Massively)
I just did a solo progression server.. sadly i wouldn't have time for a real one. Raiding in eq was an all day thing lol

The Soapbox: The raid can wait; your kids can't

This is why I never want kids

The Tattered Notebook: How not to sell an expansion

I played a ton of eq2 on live, but jumped ship when this free to play server launched. The station cash crap is completely destroying this game. I'm not going to even bother with velious at this point. There is no reason when 60% of their production is going to stationcrap.

It's a shame too. EQ2 is an awesome game.

Free for All: Is free to play turning our kids into Vegas pirates?

I can't imagine not having the internet. At 23 years old I've always had it (At least when it mattered)

I'm sick of the hair thing too though, especially since everyone complains when i say im cutting all of mine off because apparently it's "in" right now.

New EverQuest progression server coming this March

Jan 10th 2011 5:27PM (Massively)
I was looking for one of these 8 months ago, beyond hyped.

Until I found a progression style solo server. That was some of the most fun i've had in forever. farming ntov for loot solo on the 1 hour respawn bosses so I could get geared up for luclin junk, ect.

The Game Archaeologist and the NeverEnding Quest: The highlights

Nostalgia bomb all over the place.

I remember going from UO to EQ after completely refusing to join "carebearland" for a good 3 years. I'm glad I did though. It may not have had the amazing pvp ultima brought, but the immersion was second to none. Walk around outside freeport killing fire beetles and orcs in full 3d was amazing.

Though I still say ultima was altogether more fun, my 4 years in everquest were some of my best and probably more addictive.

The state of the subscription MMO: Revenues up, WoW's stranglehold slipping

Sep 24th 2010 7:10PM (Massively)
Cataclysm will come out, and they will be right back on top.

The only thing hurting their subscriptions is no new content to addict people to. People can only run icecrown so many times before they want something fresh.

We will see the same thing that happens every year. Blizzard will drop the cataclysm bomb right on top of another big name mmo (probably SWTOR) and everyone who bought it will flock right back to WoW.

It's a shame. I'm beyond sick of wow. But i'll be right there with my worgen like everyone else because any other game I am playing at the time will become a ghost town.
