Epic supports Gears of War updates

Nov 16th 2006 12:08AM (Joystiq Xbox)
After playing through the game in co-op mode, it was fantastic. Nothing like playing through an entire game with your buddy who lives 900 miles away.

What I want? Gears of War: Alpha Squad. I want to know/play what Cole and Baird were doing while you were playing as Marcus & Dom, from the conversations, there was some battles going down.

"Woo! Thats my kinda shit!"

Engadget's relaunch giveaways: Xbox 360 Premium pack

NCAA Football '07, sure it has its faults, but it comes a lot closer to the current gen in terms of features than madden does, plus college ball is just more fun!

Potential PS3 pitfalls parried

socrates, huge montly fee? It's like $50/year that comes to $4.17 a month. My TiVo is more than that.

That was the conversation about how the location of the first button on your shirt really makes or breaks a shirt.

Metareview - Madden NFL 07 (Xbox 360)

Aug 25th 2006 3:09PM (Joystiq)
Man, I was a Franchise junkie with Madden I loved owner mode. Not the setting the prices of hot dogs too much but more the hiring and firing of coaches, and seeing retired players show up as coaches. Then there were little extras that went with that, the local & national paper, the weekly updates on your pda about what player was pissed or who to watch out for next week.

The depth and the detail was what did it for me, '06 was so terrible on the 360 and while this game does seem to be better, I already bought NCAA '07 and where I used to buy both, I just cant see myself doing so this year. Hot graphics and 3D grass are great but considering that you play the game so far out most of the time that you dont see all this detail unless its in replays or when your team comes up to the line they should have focused more on the Owner mode / Franchise play.

SuperStar mode is nothing new either it was there last year on old gen.

Bottom line is this to get "Next Gen" NFL football you have to pay $10 more and not have all the features of the old gen games.

It shouldn't be a game of compare & contrast old gen with next it should be next gen has all the old gen has and more, ESPECIALLY considering the higher price tag.

The PS3 versions side by side

#5: you posted:

"There really isnt much missing on the 20 gb PS3 though. I mean, there is HDMI, neither of the 360s have that. There is a wifi adapter, neither of the 360s have that. There are card slots, neither of the 360s have that. And there is 40 extra gbs of space, which neither of the 360s have. So really, saying that the 20 gb ps3 is bad, is like saying both of the 360 versions absolutely suck. Which Im not saying. As far as aesthetics go, the only thing missing is the chrome plating, so thats not a big deal at all."

Thats wrong, the 20GB PS3 does not have HDMI, or wifi or the card reader slots.

EA & ESPN get greedier, offering Madden pay-per-view preview

Jul 25th 2006 6:01PM (Joystiq)
Well at this point its clear even before this that EA is anti-consumer.

The monopolization of any football of note and failing to deliver a complete "Next Gen" football title for the first 2 years of this new generation. Madden '07 still lacks owner mode, NCAA presents half of the authentic stadiums and no D1-AA teams.

ESPN "integration" is beyond a joke, it basically amounts to a ticker at the bottom of your screen. Didnt 2K5 have full sports center presentation?

I dont recall EA taking 2 years to get their software up to speed last generation, thats probably because they had some competition.

It's damn sad too.

Kutaragi on PS3: it's too cheap

May 12th 2006 10:48PM (Engadget)
I think the resturant metaphor holds, but in a different manner:
Xbox 360 ala carte ordering, whopper with whatever you decide you want, milk shake, fries etc.
PS3 Combo meal. Soda fries & burger.

If you want or need all that stuff the PS3 is definately a value considering that Xbox 360 Premium $400 + WiFi adapter $100 + HD-DVD drive (at its cheapest) $100 = $600 = PS3's price.

The difference here is the choice is in YOUR hands and you may customize as you see fit.

The reason I feel the 360 is more atractive is allows you to customize it to your hearts content. Need wifi? buy it. Dont? then dont. HD movie media? Want to take a side in the "format war" then go ahead, or not. your choice.

Beyond that, Microsoft has done a lot to make YOUR Xbox 360 feel like "YOUR" Xbox 360. Gamer tags that follow you everywhere, now I'm Mez Jr in every game regardless. I can put my own custom background picture on the dashboard, I can choose the color scheme. If I want I can put a new faceplate to match the machine with the rest of my electronics. Microsoft clearly wanted to make the gamer the focus of the machine, not the machine the focus of the gamer, like the PS3 seems to be doing. Kutaragi even said he wanted the gamer to sacrifice to own a PS3.

As far as the inclusion of the Blue Ray drive/player, the difference between that and the PS2's inclusion of a DVD drive/player is that the DVD was the established media, there was no format war so it was a genuine feature that definately highlighted the value of the system. The blue ray drive/player on the other hand has no such high ground, and has more of a feeling of pushing the technology on you.

The more I hear both sides of the MS v Sony the more i think Sony's respons to the Xbox 360s motto of "jump in" will be "fall in line".

2007 Infiniti G35 gets in-dash system with hard drive and CF

Apr 17th 2006 7:01PM (Engadget)
On an aside to those who were talking about "a new Skyline coming in '07" the current Infinity G35 is actually nearly identical to the current Japan market Nissan Skyline (in Japan the Skyline can be had with smaller motors of 3.0L and 2.5L as well as the 3.5L).

Pretty much always the "Skyline" has been an analogous car to the BMW 3 series, having models that spanned a whole range, with small motors and rear wheel drive only up to the all wheel drive super-Skyline GTR. That is what is coming out in '07/'08 will be called simply the GTR and no longer be directly part of the "Skyline" model family. Though the regular Skyline/G35 will get a refresh in '07/'08 as well.
