Not sure if it's the same for everyone, but I clicked on the gold box and got it even cheaper ($38)

65nm -> 45nm isn't going to be really and smaller pysically, it may allow for a smaller heat sink but still there's a lot of other components to consider before they can bring out a slim, probably the bluray drive being the biggest. Production cost is the biggest difference as far as Sony is concerned.

FYI: Circuit City is giving away a $10 giftcard with preorders on a bunch of games, including LBP.
