Why Do Alarms Snooze For Nine Minutes?

Sep 16th 2010 5:41AM (Switched)
@(Unverified) RE: On you being the former Timex President and LED default being 4 minutes.

I back this up with the fact that my trusty old Radio Shack LED alarm bought in 1978 has a nine minute snooze.

Apple Store goes down, get your credit cards ready

Jul 27th 2010 7:38AM (Engadget)
One would think that a company as advanced as Apple wouldn't need to shut down their website just to do something as simple as updating it.

Commodore Amiga celebrates its 25th birthday, Andy Warhol still dead

People always seem to forget that the Amiga was used for CGI on Babylon5 and across the US for TV new stations. IIRC, Video Toaster was the main software.

Blue Screen of Death amongst issues that plagued Deepwater Horizon

"but this one rubs just a wee bit differently"

As other have implied/stated, that comment is very much implies that Microsoft is the reason the oil leak happened.

Engadget needs to get it's authors trained in journalism. That comment is wrong, maybe boarderline liable.

Also, with over 20 years in the IT world, I can't count how many times I've ran across a system that was a single point of failure for a critical monitoring point.

Placing the blame on Microsoft would be like placing the blame on Honda because some drunk runs over a pedestrian. If the idiots using and supporting the equipment can't take the time to get the problem resolved, they're to blame.

Microsoft confirms Windows Phone 7 manufacturers: ASUS, Dell, HTC, LG, and Samsung all on board

Sprint better get that verticle slider or I'm done with them. I'm tired of my good (and stable HTC Touch) but want a keyboard.

FCC reevaluates US broadband competitiveness, finds 14 to 24 million lack access

I guess you don't realize that those countries are smaller than most US states in terms of geographic area.

It's ignorance like this which drives me nuts. Same goes for all the eco-freaks and non-US people who think that we CAN get rid of our pickups, SUVs, etc. and buy tiny 40mpg two seaters. They just don't grasp how big the US is, how far we drive and what we need to take with us. One of the largest misunderstandings is grocery trips. We don't have stores "just around the corner" where we can stop every day or walk there from home. Not in most places. That's why most Americans shop for a week or more. Try putting two weeks of groceries for a family of 4-6 in a Mini!

Researchers create super-strong metallic velcro

Actually this has been around and in user for 2 or 3 years. I've seen it at many industrial and commercial sites around the mid-west US. Not to mention there was a spot about it on some Learning/Discovery Channel about five years ago.

Pandigital Personal Photo Scanner/Converter cuts the cable, writes to memory cards

Jul 13th 2010 7:24AM (Engadget)
Wife and kids got me the 5x7 version last Christmas. I love it even though it's only 300dpi for photos. 600dpi for negatives. Fast, easy and mindless scanning. Although, the compression is pretty high.

Bendable bicycle wraps itself around a pole - by design

Jul 11th 2010 7:17PM (Engadget)
Back in 88' I had my $5000.00 racing 12 speed locked to a friend's yard light-post with a Citadel lock. I was in the house for less than 10 minutes and when I came out, the pole was cut in half and my bike (including the lock) were gone.

Lesson: A hacksaw might not go through your U-lock, but it'll go through that post like butter.

Pre Plus and Pixi Plus free on contract, with free accessories, too

Jul 5th 2010 7:27AM (Engadget)
My wife replaced her Centro with the Pixi (Sprint) and loves it.

Oh, and it didn't cost a dime either. Instant web-rebates happen all the time with Sprint and hardly ever get reported here.

My son got the Hero for $49.99 the same way.
