I love this so much. Whatever happened to these kinds of games?

Reggie: Nintendo not interested in 'the garage developer,' still likes indies (just don't mention the garage)

@Mr Khan

That's definitely a valid observation. You have me somewhat swayed, but I'm still worried that 50 bucks a pop isn't going to go over well with general consumers for too much longer before things like App stores and XBLA start dominating.

I love Nintendo. That said, I think that this is a bad call on their part for three reasons:

1. I like paying less money for games.
2. Indie/garage games can and often do offer huge variety and creativity.

But most importantly:

3. The company risks alienating its fans (like me) by not adapting to what they want.

It's not just the music industry -- it's practically all traditional entertainment media. Who's going to pay 20 dollars for a DVD they'll watch twice when it's so much easer to have a Netflix account and rip the rented DVDs to a computer? Who's going to pay 20 dollars for a CD when it's available for free on the internet? I don't participate in or condone piracy (which is what those things are) but the fact is that the entertainment industry loses BUCKETLOADS of potential sales and new customers to piracy because they insist on using business models from the 90's.

I just don't want to see that happen to Nintendo.

OK, so why aren't the professional development studios doing fun things like this? I don't get it, you can do all kinds of fun stuff with the Kinect, and all we get is Sonic Riders...

Sony finally releases official statement on PS3 jailbreak

I find the fact that they will block PSN access just for having the homebrew on your console distressing. That's the equivalent of manually breaking your system. If you're stealing copyrighted software, that's one thing, but just because you have something on YOUR console that didn't come out of/through the house that Sony built isn't grounds to permaban someone, in my opinion.

When will hardware manufacturers stop hating on their own customers?
