Free Indie Games is a lot of free indie games chosen by Terry Cavanagh

"Terry Cavanagh, indie-game maniac behind VVVVVV, Chat Chat, At a Distance, and *Hexagon..."

*fixed.

Ayane whomps Hitomi in this new DOA5 trailer

I guess I haven't seen the other ones in a while, but this doesn't seem any less sexy or violent than DOA2 or DOA3. Admittedly, I didn't play DOA4. None of the boobs are as ridiculous as they were in DOA1.

Also, I fail to see the point of reducing sexiness when there is still a pretty clear goal of making the characters as sexy as possible. It seems kinda like they are trying to tone down Jessica Rabbit by adding in an anatomically correct, computer-generated, naked Angelina Jolie (ala Beowulf). Sure, she's more realistic...but is it less sexy? Or hey, let's unsex it even more by casting a fully clothed, completely real Scarlett Johanssen in a tight black catsuit in Avengers. That will show how non-objectifying we can be!

Yes, despite my criticisms above, I do appreciate this aspect of Sony. Keep it coming.

I'm still at a loss on how to really use the Move and have the game really "work". Despite the fact that gamepads are pretty generic, in terms of applicability to a game, they generally succeed at _not_ impeding immersion. Ironically, I feel like motion controllers have so far actually failed at _not_ impeding immersion, by being too unpredictable and imprecise. IMO, the worst thing you can do with a controller, is have it behave in ways the user does not expect. This happens lot. Look at people who play Wii boxing. They want to just punch like a maniac, but they wind up only throwing 1 in-game punch out of every 10 RL punch motions. It's not one-to-one at all. The guy in the video says the floating hand is one to one, but that's just for pointlessly moving it around on the screen. When he opens the gate, he has to "jerk" the controller upwards. There are still canned moves. Canned motions can be easy to mess up if you have the controller a little tilted, or were moving it slightly before executing the main motion..

I think if we're replacing "press X" with "execute unnatural motion X", we're not really winning.

I want to like it, and I had to skim the clip after a minute because it was putting me to sleep, but this looks really dull to play. I love a good art-game, but it doesn't look particularly artsy either, not superficially at least. What it does look like, is a game that is designed around the novelty of motion controllers, which hasn't generally been a winning idea.

THQ files '1666' trademark

Some character in some fiction mentioned that peasants mostly only give a crap about having dinner tonight and a place to sleep. I think I kind of agree with that. I doubt peasants gave a crap about the world ending in 1666. Because...what do you do? Freak out? Sure, if you have time to freak out. Freaking out is a first-world past-time. If freaking out means you can't eat, you generally don't freak out.

Well, it certainly doesn't rely heavily on primary colors and oversized heads, so I can see why you might find it a little bland.

Every other nominee is better in every respect? That's a bit of a stretch. I have plenty of criticisms for Skyrim, and yes it is starting bore me well before the end...but for such a long game with that much content, that's not too unusual for me.

The other nominees are great games too, but I don't see anything in the list that makes me think Skyrim didn't deserve it. I mean, it's not like they nominated Ikaruga and it lost. That would be tragic.

I also found it hard to believe that every single Jarl sits in the exact same "Jarl pose"--whether male or female. Actually, I'm not sure if it's the Jarl, or the fact that the chair has elbow rests. I should try sitting in one of those chairs and check the third person view.
