Catch the headlines with Newsbreaker advergame

Apr 26th 2007 2:55PM (Joystiq)
AWESOME idea, but mediocre execution.

There are tons of breakout clones, and this one isn't one of the better ones. I wouldn't have played for more than 5 minutes

But they're definitely onto something here. I suggest they create an entirely new game (controlled by the mouse, not by the keyboard) but keep the same "news article" interaction presence.

Actually, they probably should have a contest. People would love that!

Weekly Webcomic Wrapup: R.I.P. 300 jokes edition

The RPG-TV one was pretty funny. I wish that was included here. I would have voted for it. I was not really impressed with the rest :-/

DS Daily: What was the last game you bought?

Apr 14th 2007 12:24PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
The last PS2 game I bought was God of War (the original), since EBGames had a pretty good sale going on with their coupon.

The last DS game I bought? Hmm.. it's been a while, but I think it was Rocket Slime.

Current and ex-clerks speak about working in a game store

Interesting read. I don't think it made me any more sympathetic to retail employees - after all, customer service means putting on a smile no matter how crappy of a mood you are in.

But, it might be good advice for young hopefuls who think the job is all fun and games (no pun intended).

DS Daily: Localization

Mar 22nd 2007 2:29PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I like it when they localize it culturally as well, because it makes the Japanese and American games very different.

Take Ouendan. I played the Japanese version, beat it, and loved it. If they would have just put english on it and brought it over to America, it wouldn't be the same. There'd be no reason to play it again, except to see the english menus. BUT, because they made a whole new game out of it, even though it was essentially the same mechanics, it was still a lot of fun to play through as well.

Cooking Mama, however, was a different story. They basically just turned it into english, but left a lot of the japanese dishes and what not the same. To me, they could have made it more american with different foods. How hard would that have been? And so, since I enjoyed the game in japanese form, it really wasn't as enjoyable when it came over here.

New Super Mario Brothers plush toys are new, super, and plush

Man, I was all set to order a boo. I even had it in my cart. But now, they are all sold out. And of course they still have plenty in stock of all the others. This sucks :(

How many labyrinthine games do we really need?

Mar 14th 2007 10:56AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I think it's a little too early to be dismissing all these types of games as the same. Each one has different features that make it unique.

I don't think they should sell this at full retail price, but I like the idea, and if they can all bring something new to the table, I'm for it.

Wii Warm Up: Your sites of choice

Mar 13th 2007 10:53AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
While I read other blogs, I have to commend NintendoWiiFanboy and DSFanboy on taking a more "quality over quantity" appraoch. A lot of the other blogs I read (Kotaku, Joystiq, GoNintendo), I only read some of their articles and I mainly skim. There's just too much to read of everything. You guys might not get the news the fastest, but you're good for the common woman like me who doesn't have 15 hours a day to devote to reading gaming news.

Additionally, 4colorrebellion has that same "not too many posts a day" philosophy, but ever since using google reader, their RSS feed doesn't show up as nicely as everyone else's .. and I rarely visit blog homepages anymore.
