The Engadget Interview: Sean McCarthy, CEO of Steorn

Jul 17th 2007 2:04PM (Engadget)
Back when Steorn paid for the ad in the economist someone posted a comment suggesting that if Steorn“s office was plugged into the power grid, then this whole thing had to be a hoax. I believe that to be true. If Steorn could truly scale their invention to power airplanes and buildings then they would surely be doing so. It is like Ryan said: "Typically if you believe this kind of stuff is possible you expect people to run off to the biggest company in the world and to do big fat licensing deal and retire off to the Maldives.". I think that hits the nail on the head. If you own the rights to such a powerful invention there is no way you will waste your time trying to prove to the world that it works. You set up a licensing deal with a huge manufacturing company with a great reputation for building electrical machines like Mitsubishi, then you simply start popping the little free-energy-generating gizmos on planes, you use them to power entire cities, hell, you could even have electric cars run off of the little bastards. Would anyone here not spend say 50,000 bucks for a car that would run FOREVER? Steorn is taking advantage of the fact that:
(a) a sucker is born every minute
and
(b) a fool and his money are soon parted
I am now as jaded as can be after reading this interview.

Gimbal does not rock. He is merely poorly paraphrasing a recent story that ran in the Onion relatively recently. That sucks dude, get your own material.

Welcome Grant Robertson!

Great, another writer. According to your site there are at least 2 of you blogging on the peer2peer blog. SO, IF:
-there are at least 2 ppl authorized to post articles on this site
-p2p is a way hot topic & ppl want to know & talk about it, plus its a polarizing issue which sparks lively debates (& web hits)
-the ppl authorized to post articles here actually look forward to researching p2p & blogging about it
THEN WHY? Is there such a lack of new posts. Y'all create a new post like every two weeks or so, what the hell?
In the post above there was a comment that read:
"I'll enjoy watching [Grant Robertson] stretch out in this space"
Well, I call bullshit on that one & bet you that we will not see an increase in posts. I mean, c'mon, 2 bloggers with only 2 posts in the last 30 days. P2P is a hot enough & current enough topic that I am sure I could squeeze out at least 3 or so posts per week. You guys suck, I hope this blog gets its ass up to speed or gets kicked off the weblogs, inc network, or at least that someone who actually cares about p2p can take over. You have failed the community, you have failed yourselves. Grant Robertson & Brad Hill: Your lack of enthusiastic posting brings shame on both of your houses. You have failed us all.

Racist game spreads hate over immigration debate

Apr 20th 2006 9:56AM (Joystiq)
I think you should shoot every dirtbag border jumper you see. Why? Because its not like the best & brightest Mexicans are braving deadly expanses of desert. We send you the worst turds in our toilet. The ppl (come on now, if anything we are still talking about humans) that try to cross your border everyday do want to sell drugs, to commit crimes, to drain your welfare system, to tax you with more taxes spent on providing information in spanish even though the official language is english (imagine if the fed gov started providing info in chinese...people would fucking riot). The dirtbags willing to cross over do not have a penny to their name. They carry the memories of many hungry nights and many hungry mouths waiting for them to send money. And you will hear the same argument from them over and over: "we come to your country to do the jobs your ppl refuse to do". Well, that may be somewhat true, but if I break into your house and clean it up real nice: do i have the right to sleep in your front lawn and raise my kids right next to yours? If Americans want to curb illegal immigration they must:
-Treat the Mexicans in the country like the second-citizens they are, cut them off from all government aid, and enact laws that makes it easier to fly them the hell back where they came from (especially for committing crimes, don't try them in America, send them through the Mexican court system and watch them wait years for an initial hearing without being tried...stop wasting your tax $'s)
*Every race and ethnic group and what have you has had to experience second-citizenry, think about how the irish were treated and how they are treated now, ditto for blacks, lithuanians, etc... it's just a rite of passage
-militarize the border and work alongside volunteers willing to pull a trigger in the name of fairness
-perhaps bounties for finding illegal immigrants with some sort of multiplication bonus (think viewtiful joe) for catching multiple ones
Do this soon. I want to go to the US as well but guess what: If I go, I will have a job beforehand, a green card, and I will arrive by plane (not swim across a goddamn river or trekking across a desert (I need not act like a thief in the night IF I know that I am not doing anything wrong)
Finally it must be mentioned that trying to stop the flow of illegal immigrants is like trying to stop the flow of urine (you can try, but the golden liquid will exit your body eventually). Couple this with a huge, porous border and you have a big problem. I guess that even with a huge wall Mexicans would eventually just use waterways to try and get it or even trebuchets to just fly over (we b a resourceful ppl). You also gotta consider that many illegals are now legal and that it is their legal right to request that their immediate family gets admitted into the US, legally. Maybe illegal immigration is just something Americans are just gonna have to put up with. Bottom line: With the war in Iraq, the coming war with Iran, a slowly declining economy, diminishing profits as cost cutting gets more and more out of hand as Americans try to compete with hive-minded Indians, Chinese, etc..., loss of important mid-range paying jobs to oursourcing, etc... RICH AMERICANS WILL BECOME SUPER RICH AND MIDDLE-CLASS AMERICANS WILL SLOWLY BECOME A DENSELY PACKED LOWER CLASS, THEN MANY AMERICANS MIGHT FIND THAT THEY HAVE A LOT IN COMMON WITH THAT DIRTBAG PACO AS THEY HAVE TO COMPETE WITH HIM FOR A LOW PAYING JOB. YOU CAN STILL FIX YOUR COUNTRY, AMERICA CAN STILL BE THE COLOSSUS IT WAS MEANT TO BE. SHOOT PACO WHILE YOU HAVE THE CHANCE AND LEGISLATE AGAINST HIM BEFORE HIS DIRTBAG KIDS PACKED 30 TO A PICKUP TRUCK FLATBED (ITS ABSOLUTELY TRUE, HAPPENS IN MEXICO AS WELL) OUTNUMBER YOU AND EAT YOU FOR BREAKFAST.
