Wii Post: Bruiser and Scratch, Sonic, Hockey Allstar Shootout

Dec 8th 2008 2:02PM (Joystiq)
I'd like to believe the delay in getting Castlevania III is because Konami is working on a new re-localization that translates all the in-game text into English but retains the VRC6 soundtrack that the original NES version was not able to use.

As for Sonic 2 for SMS, I have no idea why it was picked for a Virtual Console release. Like most 8-bit Sega games released after the company had gone 16-bit, it's mildly interesting to see how the programmers approached the problem of backporting complex titles to weaker hardware, but their value in today's market is almost zero.

Besides, any Wii owner who does for some reason think back fondly on that game probably already owns Sonic Adventure DX and/or Sonic Gems Collection for GameCube, both of which include the Game Gear version of it.

Xbox Phat makes Time's 'Microsoft Moments'

One thing The Duke got right that Controller S didn't was the placement of the black & white buttons. On The Duke, they extended the ABXY button grid to 3x2, a familiar configuration to anyone who's played Street Fighter II. On Controller S, it was more like 'oh crap, we forgot we had two more buttons'!

Opinion: Why I can't go beyond the first 5 mins of Call of Duty: World At War

As a descendant of a Japanese Giant Crab, I am gravely offended by games in which my heritage is portrayed as having a weak point that can be attacked for massive damage...

Sony: PSP Brite's scanlines caused by hardware, no plans to fix [update]

Oct 21st 2008 12:59PM (Joystiq)
A better question is why the PSP is using an interlaced display at all. Apart from possibly making it slightly easier to provide a composite TV-out signal, I can't think of any reason why the hardware shouldn't be taking advantage of the individually-addressable nature of the LCD panel and providing full-frame non-interlaced graphics.

Show tunes: Wii Music licensed tracks revealed

Oct 16th 2008 4:32PM (Joystiq)
I want to be excited about this title, I really do, but from all the previews I've seen so far it appears that the musical quality of performances in this game are going to be roughly equivalent to a Gravis Ultrasound with 512KB of wavetable memory installed.

Pantomiming making music isn't any fun if the result sounds like the demo tune from a cheezy Casio keyboard.

'Reggie just announced that the DSi will not see release until "well into calendar year 2009" citing strong U.S. sales of current DS hardware.'

I hope he's not expecting those U.S. sales to stay strong, now that they've announced an improved version of the hardware will be release in a few months.

Drop the DS Lite price to $89.99 and we'll talk.

I look forward to the Boredoms DLC that requires you to own five drum kits and smash two guitar controllers together to play.

Capcom's statistical explosion: life-to-date series and games sales

May 23rd 2008 2:57PM (Joystiq)
It blows my mind that there have been one hundred and twenty titles in the Mega Man franchise. That's about one every 2 months for the past 20 years.

Although it's perhaps even more telling that none of them after the first three (and maybe the first X game) are in any way essential.

And it's NINTENDO that gets accused of re-hashing the same IP over and over again for generations?

Gametrailers begins Metal Gear retrospective

May 9th 2008 2:42PM (Joystiq)
I tend to avoid web video, so can somebody tell me if the retrospective covers the MSX Metal Gear titles, or do they jump right in as though the NES game was the first in the series?
