Tsk tsk, IGN. Time to update that "internet use" policy! [update 1]

pot calling the kettle black? There are plenty enough dubious journalistic honors to pass around.

Rational gamers choose subsidized hardware, all else equal [update 2]

Thank you, Catalyst and others for pointing out the fallacies of V. Cole's faux erudition. Today's Wii news was full of highs and lows, but better to leave the market analysis and editorializing to more capable minds.

Wii: then and now

WTF? Do they give stars for kissing ass? Is this whole system in place so that obsequious little yes men can run to the defense of piss-poor "journalists"? Joystiq pulls the same crap of trying to polarize audiences when they should be about the experience, the hobby, the thing that we've poured time, money, and life experience into--not pesi versus coke type loyalties. Joystiq is really turning to crud. IMO, they should ride their impulsive firing streak and get rid of these poor excuses for writers. With the sort of backing and popularity that Joystiq gets, their shouldn't be room for divisive fiction writers.

Wii: then and now

And people will still buy it. Some of these issues are kind of whiny and suspect. Nobody knows why any of these things have changed and why corporate promises have fallen through, but that won't stop Joystiq from slapping on hastily surmised reasons. Prior to this morning, Joystiq was in the dark. Later today, Joystiq is still in the dark, watching shadows on the wall. This isn't journalism, just flame-baiting. It's one thing to show how disappointed we are, but yet another to have these inexplicable changes become a sort of rallying point for God knows whatever you're trying to accomplish here. Next you'll be getting us to sign petitions to have Nintendo lower it's prices. Summa gets fired for being your most productive writer and overhyping the truth, while articles that prey off of latent fanboyism for hits (that make your Battlestar Galactica advertisers happy) still appear? Write stories about the awesome 360 games on the horizon. Interviews with any of hundreds of PS3 developers. Not this knee-jerk, reactionary tripe. There's more to this industry than the apparent failings of a little white box. Enough with the thought control and opinon guiding already. You did it with the 360 launch, the Sony news, and now the Wii. You're reducing the hole industry to cater to reactionary brats. Kill the vicious cycle, please.

Columbine game scapegoated for Montreal shootings

Sep 14th 2006 4:34PM (Joystiq)
Kinda tasteless to make a game about Columbine. Kinda tasteless to shower said game with undue praise. But then again most gamers aren't moralists, philosophers, or even (as indicated by a recent joystiq article) extroverts capable of thinking fom beyond the confines of their own insular existences. If (a big IF) some game did encourage a twisted man to go and injure those people and kill that 1 woman, it's unfortunate. It's futile to talk about blame and responsibility here though.

NYT: Wii to launch Nov. 19 for $250 in US [update 6]

Sep 14th 2006 4:40AM (Joystiq)
After watching the presenation videos and teaser footage from the games (all from wii.com). I'm convinced that many will feel justified in paying $250 for the Wii. I can't help but notice that a lot of work has gone into making it as inclusive and unique as possible and that sort of experience shouldn't be expected to be shoveled off to consumers on the cheap. Nintendo will price the system in accordance with demand. Furthermore, Nintendo believe that they've created a system worth spending $250 for.

As far as the VC games go, there are millions of people in America willing to spend upwards of 3 dollars for bacteria tainted burgers, artery-clogging fries, and carbonated corn syrup. They probably won't mind paying anywhere from 5-10 dollars to buy a classic game. Plus, anyone annoyed by the pricing can always get ROMs illegally for free and play it at their own leisure on their PCs.

Nintendo sent a strong message today: that they're product is just as good or better than anything on the market based on the merit of what it has to offer.

Nintendo Japan conference not-so-liveblogging [update 29]

Sep 14th 2006 3:58AM (Joystiq)
@ Sebastian: if the controller is anything like th DS, the game will warn you to save when the battery charge gets low. If you don't feel like buying new batteries all the time, get rechargable batteries. And if the remote were rechargable, you'd have to wait for it to charge before you could play it and that could probably be annoying but not really that big a deal. Either way, there are pros and cons.

It's the dining room from the first RE game followed by a door being smashed. The Necro Nesia gam didn't look all that impressive.

Can't wait to get high on Wiid!!! (sophomoric... yes)

what's that rpg in the video?

The Link versus Knight battle looks to be worth the price of the system alone.

Are those scenes from Resident Evil?

And yes that old guy conducting frightens me.
