Oh dear.. Porsche you have totally missed everything this guy said.
First of all yes, all of that stuff costs more, but the point is they offer choice, because maybe you want all of that stuff, but I guarantee you there are people out there who don't. There are people without internet that supports Live, so they don't need anything but the console. There are a LOT of people who don't have HD TVs including myself, so Blu-Ray or HD-DVD is absolutely useless to them. I mean.. would you want to have to buy all the extra add-ins for a car when you honestly have no use for them? Hey, you have to buy XM Satellite radio and pay an extra $100, and we don't care if you aren't going to pay the damn monthly fee, you have to have it or you can't have the car. Most people would walk out.
And about the rechargable batteries.. don't even go there. I'd rather be able to put any batteries I want and have to pay for rechargable ones then have batteries that can't be replaced. What if I want to play for longer then the batteries last? What if I forget to plug it in one night? I can't use it the next day unless I have another controller lying around.
I mean, if you need everything the PS3 offers, yeah, it's a great deal for you. To be honest I want a PS3.. I just don't have $600 to spend on a gaming console. If it wasn't that much I wouldn't have just gotten a 360 back in May, I would have waited.
And your arguement about the computer thing.. haha you little feck, have you not heard that Sony themselves said: THIS IS A COMPUTER. They brought that upon themselves. Normally I wouldn't compare a console to a PC because there's a lot consoles can't do that PCs can. I'm not going to compare the Wii or 360 to a PC, but hey, Sony wants us to do that with the PS3. So all of Rockadoo's comments are spot-on. And also UMD was supported like Blu-Ray is being, because it was used on the PSP. It still bombed. And the Cell processor hasn't been tested yet, it sure as hell could be better then the 360, but I don't know, because if you think about it, without all the stuff they packed in aside from the console, the Blu-Ray drive, the wireless, all that, the console is at least equal to the 360's base $300 price point. So really, is it going to be that much better at the core?
And guess what, Sony's losing what they had the past 2 generations: all of the exclusive developers. Without that.. what's there to push it head and shoulders above the competition? Why should everyone dish out $200 more to play essentially the same games they can play on the 360? Sure there are titles like Resistance which look good, but the 360 has Halo and Gears, and the Wii has Zelda and Mario. I don't think there's going to be that massive pile of games the only the Sony system has any more.
The thing you said about the Wii not having HD video is off the rocker too, because Nintendo isn't trying for the graphics. If they were they wouldn't have made a cheaper console. Why do they need HD if they aren't going to have shining graphics? To point out the blemishes? I think it's a good move leaving HD out aside from basic widescreen. And uh the controller doesn't suck - remember, the company you're defending put it in their controller too. The memory you can expand with SD cards, which is quite a bit easier then memory cards since they're all-purpose. Yeah, the one thing you've got is that there's no DVD playback.. but if you're looking at HD things I'm highly doubting you don't have a DVD player at ever TV.
Wow.. I just wasted an hour trying to shut you and your damn fanboy mouth up. Thanks for wasting my time.
Erm, who said the online service for PS3 was going to be free? If I recall, they said there would be a lower version (Xbox live Silver) for free and a better one (XB Live Gold) for a price.
Why are we arguing about two formats that aren't even out yet? Now, I have a 360, and let me tell you, it's going to be hard for Sony to beat. Not impossible, but hard. They act like Blu-Ray is going to save them, but really, it's going to come down to the system. I think they should pull a MS and make a regular version with a regualr DVD player and then have a Blu-Ray version for more that plays Blu-Ray movies.
On the debate between the formats, I don't really like either one more then the other. But from what I see, HD-DVD players are half the price and HD-DVDs are around $5 cheaper. I like the catalog a little better as well. It's really too early to tell which will win though.
As for the PS3/Blu-Ray vs. 360/HD-DVD thing, I honestly don't think this'll decide the war. I mean, the HD-DVD adapter is going to be an ugly external box, but if you want to save money, it'll probably be a good choice. And about the PS3 with Blu-Ray.. Sorry Sony, but all I see that doing is playing movies and raising the price of the PS3. At least MS made it optional by releasing it seperately, even if it is an ugly external box and is only for movies. As many people before have said: The DVD capacity isn't a problem for Microsoft. The PS3 might have an edge though, because if they want to make a bigger game, they'll be able to. But as another person said, it'll probably only be Sony-exclusive companies that use the extra space.
I hope both Microsoft and Sony's consoles succeed, it's going to be a close war though. Now, how about we wait and see what happens?
