@kgoo867 The case ended before he went to court. That alone is a small victory for Hotz. Sony could have absolutely destroyed him ,regardless of the outcome of the court case. That's how most corporate lawsuits are won. Who can outspend who.

@jwalsh1989 Fair enough, but keep in mind, it was Sony who sold the console in a state that it could be exploited in this manner. Just like you may be a jerk if you take advantage of a bug in a game, but the game was shipped with that bug. Not to defend anyone taking advantage of bugs, but it was up to Sony to fix it in such a way that did not remove functionality from the console. Microsoft found a way to ban cheaters and consoles without disabling portions of Live, but Sony, not so much.

The constant updates are somewhat annoying, but to more or less disable a console because you didn't agree to an update, and for then Sony to turn around and claim that it's your decision not to update? That's disingenuous at best. Instead of using a scalpel, they used a chainsaw.

But what can you expect from a company that installed root kits on people's PC's without permission?

@TheDarkWayne No, no it's not. Is the author of The Anarchist's Cookbook guilty for every kid who blows up a mailbox with a pipebomb?

@OnToGloryReturns Literally go with figuratively, or figuratively go with literally? Now I'm all confused.

@mmmfishtacos Yes. I'm tired of people who can't separate out Hotz being a prick from the "crime" that he committed (while not having the same level of outcry regarding any other console or computer based device that was hacked).

@Iron Man Oh noes!

So how did Hotz exploiting a console affect you? Because.. Ahhhh, because a small handful of people used it to cheat at games. Something which, in many cases, people don't need an exploited console for.

Yes Hotz is a douche. I am not arguing against that. But, I would bet dollars to doughnuts if Hotz wasn't a douche, and if what he released didn't allow people to cheat playing online, there would not be this huge outcry from the gamer community against him.
