Swag Saturday: Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 controllers for all those holiday games

Nov 14th 2009 7:16PM (Joystiq)
Last Thanksgiving, we all played some Wii bowling. My 87 year old grandmother fell while playing, and had to be rushed to the hospital. She broke her hip, and the resulting blood clot killed her 3 days later.

tl;dr Nintendo killed my grandma. RIP Granny Lily

Does it really matter what we type? Is this completely random, or do you guys pick a particularly clever post? Because if I had to fix the economy, it would be with oral sex. Don't ask how, just sit back, and relax.

Joystiq turns 5, you get the presents! Win inFamous & Prototype on PS3

Jun 21st 2009 6:21PM (Joystiq)
I've had Joystiq on my bookmarks tab for nearly 3 years, and I've checked it daily since then, with my only defections being out of town vacations. Also, I actually own a PS3, so I'm not gonna sell these games if I win.

Ask Engadget HD: What's the best mainstream Blu-ray player?

Jun 3rd 2009 1:01PM (Engadget HD)
PS3 without a doubt. Best pound for pound (or dollar for dollar) BD player on the market. It has more features than any other BD player around for a very affordable price point. If PS3 decided to implement native Netflix and Hulu playback without Playon or other pay-to-stream services, this wouldn't even be a discussion. Furthermore, I download and store HD .mkv movies on my portable hard drive and play them on my PS3 with no lag whatsoever, while maintaining 1080p 8mbps video and 5.1 DTS surround sound. Are you kidding me? This is barely a contest.

Ask Engadget HD: Which in-wall speakers for under $1,000?

May 21st 2009 4:27PM (Engadget HD)
If you can afford it, Tannoy Tannoy Tannoy. I'm a sound contractor by trade, and I've seen and heard nearly every speaker imaginable. In wall speakers are a small group, and by far, the absolute best for your buck, are Tannoy's.

Ask Engadget HD: What's the best demo material to show off my new home theater?

May 13th 2009 3:09PM (Engadget HD)
Your best bet is to show two scenes. Choose one scene from an animated film, like Wall-E, as the picture quality is far, far beyond any live action sequences. This will really shine on the video front. I suggest the scene where Wall-E and Eva are "dancing" in space.

Your second scene should be a newer released action movie, with a kick ass soundtrack. Transformers would be best, although anything with DTS-HD or Dolby True HD 5.1 sound will be a great choice. Matrix - chapter 29 is DEFINITELY a great piece of work, but older movies are not necessarily going to be as "lossless" as newer films that have released Blu-ray films after Blu-ray was already on the market.

When I showed off my system, I did so with 300 and Wall-E.
