The year role-playing games broke

he 'morality' system was around waaaaaaay before Fallout.

SoulCalibur 5 review: The old flame still burns

Jan 31st 2012 1:17PM (Joystiq)
Its hard to take anything in this review seriously when you call the story in Mortal Kombat captivating and spectacular. Unless of course by saying that you actually meant ridiculously bad, nonsensical, and filled with unskippable cut-scenes.

And by the way, if you are playing a fighting game for its story, then you are going to be disappointed. Like it or not, fighting games are all about mulitplayer.

12 Days of Joyswag: PlayStation 3D Display, 3D PlayStation 3 games, Air Flow controller

My gaming room smells like chilli, since that is what my wife is cooking right now. No one wants to know what the room will smell like AFTER I eat the chilli...

I would draw... my own conclusions.

Puzzle Bobble Live busts a move onto XBLA in Japan

Sep 3rd 2009 7:14PM (Joystiq)
I've already had a bunch of versions of this game, and I'll get it for xbla, but only if there is an option NOT to have avatars on screen.

And yes, I know some of you love avatars and I don't care. I can't stand them. It may be foolish, but x360 avatars are the main reason I rarely use my 360, and buy all multiplatform games for PS3.

Ghostbusters PS3 patch is close to 720p, but no cigar

Aug 31st 2009 4:49PM (Joystiq)
There was a big stink about Halo 3 not being in HD, but most didn't mind. There was even talk of yet another one of those stupid Class Action lawsuits. Personally, I'm not a Halo fan so I don't care one way or the other, but back then most comments suggested that the game was great and graphics were secondary, that sort of thing.
As for Ghostbusters itself, I haven't played it yet...I played the demo on PS3, and put PS3 and 360 versions in my Gamefly que, like I do with most mulit-platform titles, waiting for whichever one is sent to me first, then I remove the other version from my que. Unless I plan to play on-line, in which case its PS3 only. I refuse to pay for the 'priveledge' of playing on-line.

Ghostbusters PS3 patch is close to 720p, but no cigar

Aug 31st 2009 2:45PM (Joystiq)
Most people didn't seem to mind that Halo 3 was sub 720p. And even fewer that CoD4 was sub 720p. And probably even fewer will mind that the next CoD is not in HD. But because a licensed title by a non AAA developer has better visual quality on the 360 then that means the PS3 sucks or is too hard to develop for or is inferior to the 360.
The easy solution is to buy both systems. Both systems have great games, both systems have not-so great games. But to pick and choose specific games that support your argument while ignoring those that do not is foolish.

Panzer General: Allied Assault attacks XBLA this fall (no Dragoon in sight)

The world needs more turn-based strategy games, even if they are set in WWII.

Microsoft offering Silver members one month of Xbox Live Gold for $1

Jun 18th 2009 12:03AM (Joystiq)
You don't get early demo access. They just make Silver accounts wait somewhere between 1-7 days before downloading it. Unless of course you have a PS3, when you get the same 'early access' demo at the same time as XBL Gold subscribers. And for the guy waiting 2 hours to update a game: Either you are full of shit or you have a terribly slow connection.

Fable 2 expansion delayed until 'late January'

Dec 18th 2008 12:28PM (Joystiq)
Lionhead has a history of doing this. Anyone heard of Fable, or Black and White???

Jesus, get over yourselves. Noone is suggesting that software design is not complex, just that it is just one of many, many complex jobs in this world. My work is complex too, but that is not an excuse that will fly with my boss, or anyone else. I guess the difference between my job and 'software engineer' is that I have to have a degree to do my work.

They (Lionhead, Microsoft) should n*o*t* have used the promise of DLC in their marketing campaign when history shows that particular company has a habit of missing deadlines, as it is deceptive.
And just so no one else gets their panties in a twist, my line of thinking applies to any and all companies, making such unlikely promises, not just microsoft.
