Wii + Parents = ???

Nov 23rd 2006 4:00PM (Joystiq)
Packing up the system and heading over for family time myself... can't wait to watch my mother (who already loves the Wii) convince my 70 year old grandmother to try it.

DS fanboy admits that PSP has a better holiday lineup

Nov 16th 2006 5:43PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Aww, love for Ken! Ken's a great guy.

Now I'm gonna go kick him in the face. Look what you did, Andrew! You're inciting violence. For shame.

Off the Grid: Carcassonne review

Nov 13th 2006 12:09PM (Joystiq)
This game, along with Settlers of Catan, is one of my favorite board games ever. Much love for the Carcassone and pitched farmer battles.

Red Steel: how do you feel?

Nov 9th 2006 7:02PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I too have gone back and forth, but I preordered and I think I'm going to keep it. I think it's going to be fun, if nothing else. I'm sure it won't be the best game ever, and I bet there will be better games LIKE this that get released in a few years, but this was the first thing that really got my attention for the Wii, even when it was flawed. It's the first thing that made me breathless (Zelda, of course, doesn't count, 'cause we thought it was going to be GC back then).

But, on a tangent... funny that Trauma Center should get brought up. I have a hard time getting to excited for it, because... I already played most of the game. Yeah, there's extra content, but the stylus seems so much better suited for TC and that's a lot of money for a little extra content....

Tony Hawk's Project 8 soundtrack announced

Oct 18th 2006 4:50AM (Joystiq)
Dammit! I keep waiting to see "Tony's Theme" by the Pixies show up on one of these.

Official Red Steel boxart [update 1]

Sep 27th 2006 2:59PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Yeah, I liked the fake as well and am sad that it WAS fake! Though it occurs to me -- when shopping around and looking at preorder options, the box I've seen used in images has been all black, with only the logo on it -- and I even like that better than this one, for its simplicity. I do really like the logo and it's nice to see it really stand out. But it makes me wonder why the all-black cover is everywhere and this one is rarely seen.

SCEA's Jack Tretton claims PSP owning the DS

Sep 23rd 2006 2:44PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I find it slightly humorous to see people running to defend the PSP on the grounds that we are defending the DS. Did someone call the irony fairy?

It's not about defending the DS. It's about Sony's spin machine living in bizarro world. It would be just as funny if it were another company doing the same thing and they mentioned the DS. Sorry that it had to be Sony, but they are just making themselves a walking target these days!

Confirmed: FFXII Revenant Wings for DS

Sep 14th 2006 11:44PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Thanks for clarifying that, Probot -- that's exactly it.

X-2 was pretty and shiny all but, but I even have a secret girly-girl side I try to hide, and yet the inane fluff of the game just killed my interest in it. They managed to make me seriously dislike characters I'd cared about before, and I know I'm not alone in that. Lots of people bought the game out of love for FFX and then wanted to open their veins after playing it.

If you liked it, more power. Different strokes.

Apple KB article: yellow MacBook palmrest

Sep 14th 2006 4:51PM (TUAW.com)
Just what I was looking for -- my Macbook, less than 2 months old, is starting to discolor. It's my only beef with the machine, but it's a BIG one.

100 most influential women in gaming

Sep 13th 2006 1:13PM (Joystiq)
To those who say these women aren't influential -- believe me, it takes a lot more than a Miyamoto to get a game into your living room. When you're at a restaurant, do you assume the waiter cooked your meal? Mixed your cocktail? Hauled the stones to construct the building?

It takes a LOT of people to run the gaming industry, and that's without even considering the press, the PR people, and everyone else sucked into the satellite of the industry. Apparently, instead of celebrating women, Next-Gen needs to educate the populace about what goes into the building of a game.
