NintendoWare Weekly: BurgerTime Deluxe, Anima: Ark of Sinners

@mrantimatter
Because their gimmick is already "hey, we're like that JRPG stuff like Final Fan... crap, we can't reference them without lawsuits so yeah, we're like that JRPG stuff you like..."

Leaked Soulcalibur 5 screen shows mysterious character (and it's not Ezio)

I use Hilde frequently. I like her design and he chains are a fine middleground between the slow power of Siedfried and the quick hits of Cassandra. A close friend of mine loves using Amy. So neener!

Know what? I know I will be blasted for this and I don't care. Until Capcom does something compelling with the single player, pass. Mortal Kombat showed that you don't have to ignore this aspect of fighting games but if all Capcom wants to do is roster updates, I'm fine with that. I just refuse to jump in until the third roster update. Unless, of course, they give me something to do with the game when my friends are not over.

NES-cartridge art from 72 Pins makes retro games new, new games retro

Oct 1st 2011 5:35PM (Joystiq)
I hate to be the one who points this out but dude is using other peoples intellectual property, art (logos), and copyrights to make a profit and companies will HAVE to crack down on this to protect their rights in the future.

Whle the intention is cool, once you start selling it, you open yourself to lawsuits. And I'm sure the gamer reaction will be "the companies are greedy" while the dude selling other peoples works is the victim.

Ridge Racer Vita gets insane teaser trailer, fairly tame screens

@Mmmmz

You realize these are handheld machines and in the case of 3DS, still stands atop a very low graphical bar, right? I mean these ARE for PSV and 3DS... not exactly talking Radeon tech demos here, son.

So judging by the Teaser, it looks like playing against and beating opponents will reward players with new car unlocks. Wow, really hard to decipher there, Joystiq. Man, you'd almost think this was already featured in a previous Ridge Racer...

The Gunstringer's launch DLC free to all Xbox Live members on Sept. 20

Sep 13th 2011 8:33PM (Joystiq)
Hate to say it but when I played Splosion man, it said "free DLC, click here" in the main menu. Click it, and get told despite actually buying the game, I just didn't spend enough (aka, I'm a Silver because I don't like being called N***** while playing Ticket to Ride, call me crazy...) to warrant actually getting the thing that's called free on my f'ing games main menu. Considering this is also getting touted as yet another bonus for people paying for the game, just not enough, I'm rapidly falling out of love with anything Xbox 360.

Just imagine how much of this system will no longer work when they pull the plugs! Things you PAID for....

Portabliss: Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer (iOS)

Actually the social interaction of the physical card game is the selling point for me. The portable version helps you keep track of Honor, Violence, and Runes though. But with the lacking of the expansion cards, physical still trumps portable.

Scratch one grub (card)! Gears of War board game headed to retail

@Qehb

If we were talking Gears of War monopoly, yes, you'd be right. But considering board gamers are also typically into things like Warhammer, Magic, and Lord of the Rings... it seems like a natural fit. Especially coming from FFGs.

Scratch one grub (card)! Gears of War board game headed to retail

@Extinction

That's a fairly narrow view of looking at things. Allow me to explain the massive difference between hobbyist board games and the crap Hasbo reskins and reshuffles for 100+ years.

First, these games will NEVER be sold in a Walmart, Target, (okay... to be fair Target carries Catan but that's like the Monopoly of Eurogaming) or even Gamestop. Because of this and their limited availability, they also will not sell a bunch of copies, which would aide them in making the game cheaper. Most Hobbyist board games are lucky to sell 15,000. Since the print runs can be as low as 500 copies, that doesn't leave a whole lot of mass production discount. So these games, because less are made alone, makes it more expensive to make.

Second, because these go the hobby store route, they HAVE to be sold at MSRP to keep a shop open. Buying online could net you a savings and that route is recommended if you don't have a local store you want to support. (for example, Gears will likely be as cheap as $45 at www.miniaturemarket.com) Helps bring the cost down somewhat, but still.

Third, just TRY a game like this sometime. Find a local hobby game store, find out when they have a game night, walk in and play something like Pandemic, Dominion, hell... even Puerto Rico. The sheer difference in the quality and design of the games compared to the types of games you're used to will show you right there why people who pursue this hobby end up paying the premium. Not to mention, not everyone needs their own copy of a game to play. In my group, I tend to be the "buyer." Two years ago, I thought all board gaming had to offer was monopoly (horrible game) trivial pursuit, and wacky party games. Now look at my collection. http://www.destructoid.com/blogs/sheppy/conversion-of-a-board-gamer-202369.phtml

Open you mind a bit. You might find a venue of multiplayer gaming where you're NOT constantly being assaulted with racial slurs.
