Konami cuts some Wii projects

Jan 11th 2007 3:15PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
When they don't even have a proper name or working title yet I don't think there's much to mourne. They basically hashed out some concepts and decided to focus on the strongest ones. Happens all the time. Only difference is we happen to know about it. No big deal. If they cancelled all their Wii projects it would be cause for concern but they wouldn't do that. Developing for the Wii is like getting a mountain of money for having fun. Too bad for them they didn't get it together sooner, but I guess they're a little risk averse like Capcom. More money for Ubisoft I guess.

More graphics you won't be seeing in-game [update 1]

Jan 4th 2007 7:00PM (Joystiq)
Sorry to be the one to point this out, but, the average idiot consumer has no memory at all and this will result in a positive impression of the game and some hype. It's crap and none of us would fall for it, but people do and so it's standard operating procedure for tons of these companies.

Analyst says shortages will continue into 2007

Dec 26th 2006 4:23PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I think the real question for the Wii is the demand. If they have expanded beyond the borders of the traditional gaming audience I don't think it's unreasonable that demand could oustrip supply for months yet. If they also keep the supple of intersting quality games coming as Reggie has promised then I think that'll drive demand as well. It'll be fun to watch it play out.

On the PS3 I think it's mostly a matter of Sony overcoming their production difficulties and stopping the flow of exclusives away from the system during this rough patch. That said, I don't see the demand being very high at the current prices. Here in Taiwan I can go to the local game shops and buy one right now and we only got 500 for the entire country. You can also use eBay as a dipstick for demand and right now the demand is low to non-existant.

Basically, for the current prices, Nintendo still has plenty of customers and Sony is running out.

Comparing the Xbox 360 and PS3 side-by-side

Nov 29th 2006 2:54PM (Joystiq)
I'd like to add that it is irrelevant that Sony may have more muscle except when it comes to 1st party releases because with an installed base of easily 20x the number of systems all multi-platform releases will be first developed for the XBOX 360 and then ported to the PS3. Also, when the PS3, like the PSP, sees a tapering off of development due to an inferior installed base, the system will not get any exclusives by 3rd parties and will end up in GameCube land with a few fierce loyalists and very little gameplay to offer to the masses. It has all happened before, so it should be no surprise that it will happen again. Study video game history and it's all as clear as can be.

Penny Arcade responds to our "hideous editorial," misses the point [update 1]

This inane editorial and the debacle that has followed makes me think one thing alone.

"There's no such thing as bad press."

Rational gamers choose subsidized hardware, all else equal [update 2]

Sep 15th 2006 7:07AM (Joystiq)
All things being equal? In what world do you live? That's a silly posting. It's like saying if a lump of dung and a diamond were equal there's no reason people wouldn't prefer the dung to the diamond. They aren't equal, that's the point. If they were the same they wouldn't be different things. They ARE different things and this entire blog post is a silly bit of ego-stroking mental masturbation.

Wii Sports and the games within

Sep 14th 2006 5:01PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wii/topics/wii_preview/movie/lineup.html

That is to a video on Nintendo's Japanese Wii site that shows (briefly) how boxing will be played and also has video of it in motion. It looks like the nunchuk and Wiimote will be your hands. Can't gather anything else but the video is worth a look for any self-respecting Wii-ite. It's got stuff that hasn't been shown anywhere else including about 2 seconds of Resident Evil Chronicles.

PS3: 2 down, 200+ still in the works

Aug 10th 2006 7:50PM (Joystiq)
"144. Here in the UK the 360 premium is £280. Looking at the online currency conversion

280.00 GBP United Kingdom Pounds = 530.377 USD United States Dollars

So we are in effect paying $530.377 for the 360. Which in dollars is more than the cheap PS3, less than the more expensive version.

So people are prepared to pay that much for consoles yes. We'll balk at the £425 for the PS3, but my point is, the British market has already ponied up the green for what Sony is asking you Yanks to pay for the PS3. Your disposable income is not going to be that dissimilar.

People will buy the PS3 in droves."

The XBOX 360 is selling rather poorly in the UK and Europe so your argument is rather ineffective at proving its point.

PS3: 2 down, 200+ still in the works

Aug 10th 2006 7:16PM (Joystiq)
"I think you people believe that all your efforts will result in some sort of public backlash against Sony."

Um, they ARE the backlash against Sony. And the truth will set you free.
