Exclusive: Upcoming Apple TV loses 1080p playback, gains apps... and will be renamed iTV

Aug 11th 2010 4:30PM (Engadget)
I think people are missing the point. This is not a really system for TV or movies... it's a game system. TV and movies will be available, but it'll be Angry Birds on the TV that gets moms to go buy this for their families. The controller will be key... magic pad? I don't want this... but my wife and kids will.

Microsoft announces "Project Natal" motion controller for Xbox 360!

so many questions... So it looks like I'll have to rearrange the living room when playing this to make sure nobody sits on a couch facing the TV? Seem right? I'd imagine that any background movement will be picked up, though it'd make it fun to mess with people.

Ratings for Heroes falling fast; Chuck not doing too well either

Oct 8th 2008 12:57PM (AOL TV)
I agree that Heroes needs to kill off some characters. Instead of doing that, they're bringing back dead ones (Nicki/Jessica and Linderman). I don't mind Adam, because I find him entertaining. Also, they need to squelch the whole time travel angel. It not only adds the crazy paradox problem, but it means that everything that happens is just one possibility that can always be changed. Why should I care if any of them die?

OpenPeak gets official with Atom-based OpenFrame IP "media phone"

Sep 24th 2008 6:03PM (Engadget)
I think these kinds of devices could be the next big thing. The next iteration of a universal remote. I'd purchase a well implemented combination Phone / Web Browser/ Remote Control / Picture Album touchscreen device in a heartbeat. I think the mobile well is beginning to run dry- time to focus back on improving home electronics. I imagine software that will allow me to a) pause my music or TV when the phone rings b) see sports stats or other pop-up information that automatically adjusts to whatever channel I'm watching c) stream video from my television if I want to bring the game into the kitchen, bathroom, garage, backyard. They have all of these types of products built into cellphones and laptops- why not build it into a 8-9" home-based tablet?

Poll: New iPods vs. new Zunes, what're you buying?

Sep 10th 2008 12:47PM (Engadget)
iPhone for the wife, Zune (1G- soon to be upgraded to 3G for free) with Zune Pass for me. If Apple had a subscription service, I'd think about switching. I don't think there's any comparison between Zune and iPod Classic- Zune beats it on every level. That said, iPod touch beats the Zune on every level (except storage- and if you spend most of your time near wi-fi, that's not an issue). Having options for Pandora, LastFM, and AOL radio trump having an FM radio. These are really easy decisions. The real battle is in the nano vs zune flash. There are compelling reasons for both.

TV Guide picks the best pilots (and gets it wrong)

Sep 5th 2008 5:17PM (AOL TV)
One of the pilots that always stuck with me was Oz. They focus on a guy like he's going to be the star of the show and then unceremoniously burn him alive at the end (at least if memory serves).

Lost alternate endings air on GMA - VIDEO

May 30th 2008 1:37PM (AOL TV)
Bernard would have been great... and giving him a front and center storyline to work with would have been a good turn.

Sawyer makes no sense because Kate couldn't have used the "why would I go to the funeral" line.

Locke is the right choice, because it makes us ask questions. Why did he change his mind about the lie? How did he get off the island- did he have to move it again, like Ben, and then kill himself because it not only kicked him off the island, but re-paralyzed him as well?

Further- why would Locke need the Oceanic 6 to come clean about the lie, couldn't he just go to the media and "out" them? He was on the plane after all. Maybe the story is too fantastic and they'd just think he was nuts.

Zune breaks 2 million sold, stealing market from Creative not Apple

May 10th 2008 5:33PM (Engadget)
Try this with your ipod... put it into a dock in the living room and turn it on during a party. Someone wants to hear something you don't have. Go to the computer in the office, go to Amazon.com, buy a song. Go into your living room... hit your ipod's wireless sync button. Oh wait...

How about try having a dedicated ipod in your car and have it sync to your home computer every morning when you start the car.

Zune's got one killer feature on the ipod. Wireless sync. It's the only reason to choose it over the ipod right now- but it's a dang good reason.

New Nintendo DS coming at this year's E3?

Accelerometer and Rumble

Dual touch screens

All regular DS games compatible, no GBA port.
