Nintendo Wii celebrates 1st birthday

Nov 19th 2007 6:42PM (Joystiq)
To the editors of Joystiq,
I stopped visiting this site for a very specific reason. Every article, and it doesn't matter which console, says something negative about that console. Finally, I decide to give it another shot and sure enough, another negative comment. "including the hidden gem Zack and Wiki, potentially the last complex game for the Wii". This is a console that is one year into it's life cycle. Do you really think this will be the last complex game for the Wii, or is it just a ploy to get more comments? Why throw in the dig? I think I was right to stay away.

Wii faces 'definite limit,' says UK's Xbox director

Man fawazr, if you blew through Metroid in a week in both regular and hypermode, all I have to say to you is GET A LIFE! I bought it on release day and am still only half way through. try to get some other hobbies. You might enjoy your games more and get some more life out of them lol.

Financial Times declares console war Wii-ner

Sep 12th 2007 7:26PM (Joystiq)
That is a weak arguement. If the 360 sells 25 million worldwide and the Wii sells 80 million, the attachment rate is irrelevant. Publishers are almost guaranteed to make more profit on Wii. Add in less development time and costs, and the Wii looks even more attractive. This is a business. Publishers will want their games on the system where it will make the most money.
I agree there have been too many party/mini games for the system, but there have been some awesome single player experiences as well. Looking at the release schedule, there are more to come. I believe the Wii can be very successful by catering to both audiences.

Financial Times declares console war Wii-ner

I love some of the comments on this site.
@Jay
You say you have not played the Wii since March, but go on to say the only game you purchased is Twilight Princess. That might be the reason. Pick up Metroid, Super Paper Mario or even Resident Evil 4. It may be a port, but the controls are far superior to the other versions.
@Burnt Secondary
No, the Wii is not next gen. It is current gen, just like the 360 and the PS3. In the current gen market, the other consoles are having their asses handed to them by the Wii. As far as third parties not selling on Wii, you must have missed the article about Capcoms stock hitting a 5 year high mostly due to higher than expected sales of RE4 on the Wii.
For the people who argue that the 360 has the better library of games, you are absolutely right. And so it should. It had a 12 month head start. However, after playing Metroid with the Wii controls, there is no going back. Playing such games with a standard controller just feels archaic.

The PlayStation 3 "probably" won't be last in console race

Jun 30th 2007 5:03PM (Joystiq Playstation)
@Carnage
You are deluded if you think there is no chance the PS3 can lose this round of console wars. Saying that Halo 3 is the last big game coming out for the 360 is silly. The 360 already has a large install base, much larger than the PS3. It is more attractive for developers to make games for the 360 and port them to the PS3. Then you get other companies saying they don't want to realease games for the PS3 until it gets a larger install base. Right now, it's very hard to make money on a PS3 game due to high development costs and the low install base.
To say that it isn't fair for Nintendo to release a gaming system for $250 is ridiculous. Is there a handbook with a list of rules for releasing consoles? Nintendo was very smart to offer something different from the competition. Pricing the Wii at $250 makes it a much more affordable system and attractive to casual gamers, the same gamers that pushed the PS2 into the stratosphere saleswise. It's selling well right out of the gate and that's why your hearing news like Namco/Bandai, Capcom and Sega are shifting more resources towards Nintendo consoles. After only 8 months the Wii has almost caught up to Xbox 360 worldwide sales. With such a deficit, it is going to be very difficult for the PS3 to make a comeback. It is not impossible, but it's a long, steep hill to climb.

Japanese game pubs jumping from Sony to Nintendo

If that is what a hardcore gamer is, that must be a miniscule fraction of all gamers. In reality, how many people buy 3 games a month? I live in Canada and a new Wii games costs $60. Not only that, having a job and doing other things limit the amount of game playing time. Even if I bought 3 a month, I would never be able to finish them. Just not enough hours in a day. How do you guys do it?

I hear the term hardcore gamer thrown around a lot on this site. I would love to know what makes someone a hardcore gamer. Can anyone give me a definition?

@Shagi
That was your Zelda experience, but not everyones. The game scored very high marks with critics and I found it to be a deep experience, with memorable characters and a cool control scheme.
Don't forget Wii Sports. It might not look like much, but it is incredibly fun. In the end, isn't that what games should be?

Rockstar: We 'emphatically disagree' with UK's Manhunt 2 ban

Jun 19th 2007 6:14PM (Joystiq)
@Player1
You stole my comment. I guess we should ban Saw 3. Some children might see it. How about The Sopranos? Better ban it. There might be children watching. Oh and lets not forget books. Every book in the horror section should be banned. Too much killing. We can't have kids reading that!
The bottom line is this: The game should be rated Mature. After that, it is the responsibility of the parent to monitor what the child is playing, watching or reading. Games should not be different than any other medium.

Madden 08 Wii online without friend codes

Jun 14th 2007 5:50PM (Joystiq)
I don't know why people make a big deal about friend codes. You don't need them for online play in general. You only have to use them if you want to play a specific friend. How many friends do you guys have? Even if it's 20 friend codes, that's less than 10 minutes. Not a big deal. I've come to the conclusion that gamers just love to whine.
