Capcom, Namco and Sega teaming up for mysterious 3DS collaboration

http://pxz.channel.or.jp/ is the website name? What could PXZ mean?

Project X? Zelda? Ahhh I give up already :P

See Indie Game: The Movie, listen to filmmakers at GDC

Jan 31st 2012 12:05AM (Joystiq)
I had the rare chance to ask Jonathan Blow once where he drew inspiration for the creation of his games.

He basically told me "You'll understand, when you're older". Chris Hecker and Alex Neuse were also there - they gave full and detailed responses.

Has anyone else had similar experiences with this man? I've heard people call him pretentious before, and I'd like to not believe it, but it's a little challenging when your only experience seems to reinforce it.

The Joystiq Indie Pitch: Powergrids

Seconding the graphic designer claim. Did not read the article as I do not have an iOS (Android for me) but shiny visuals and entertaining sound effects could make this look professional, and thus a hit.

Remembering the best JRPG ever

I did not read all of the JRPG articles, but the ones I did read were fantastic. Your work will be missed Mr. Schreier, but I hope it does you well in the future.

JOYSTIQ, YOU HEAR THIS? WE NEED MORE ARTICLES LIKE THESE! :D

Competing in the indie world is fun and games for IGF entrant Zarzecki

Zarzecki... how did you get this to be an article on Joystiq? There are quite a few of us who lost the IGF Student competition, and are still standing strong. I am glad you are a part of it, but it confuses me as to why there is an article.

Then again, not everyone is with us, so I am ultimately glad that this may be giving some people hope. I salute you on it, but I am surprised none the less.

Make T.I.M.E. to go through the IGF 2012 entries

Give mine a try and let me know what you think! It's an art game about sweatshop workers, and I'd be more than happy to discuss it.

Joyswag: Win a copy of BioShock, get it overnighted (Part 1)

Aug 16th 2007 9:19PM (Joystiq)
What do I like most? It's probably the first 3D game that has so much style and fine tuning to it (based on what I've played in the demo) that it actually rivals the sheer perfection that 2D games have achieved. I mean, we have 2d games that will always, ALWAYS be fun to play, always perfected, always just right, like Super Metroid and Super Mario World. No matter the age, they will always look good, feel good, and play well. Bioshock is the first 3D game I have ever encountered that holds this timelessness. Thanks to a wonderful combination of art, style and realism, it appeals to all audiences and always conveys a brilliant atmosphere, even if a little mature, and everything just works together so perfectly.

I haven't felt this way about a game since the 2D days. Everything since feels like it's just been testing the waters, seeing how many polygons and enemies we can fit on screen or what art we can convey with how little power. Resident Evil 4 almost had this, but it's realism defeated it's timelessness, and Windwaker took all it's efforts to make a timeless art style, but the gameplay fell short. Bioshock has proven to me that those efforts were not in vain, and that in the end, it all added up to create what, it my eye, appears to be the perfect 3d game. Fingers crossed, I think it's only the beginning, the beginning of a new era in 3D gaming.

Fanswag: Win a copy of BioShock, get it overnighted (Part 1) [We have a winner]

Well actually, I'm really disappointed that it's coming out for the 360 first. Yeah, that's right, FIRST. That means the game is going to suck in a year compared to the PS3 version. What? No! How can that be? Suck it up guys, it happened with Resident Evil 4 and Splinter Cell too.

"Hey look, another platform! Let's screw everyone who bought the original and make a new, better version for these people on this other console over here!"

In about a year, we're all going to have the version of Bioshock that sucks. PS3 owners, meanwhile, will be getting a different version of the game with enhanced texture art (due to larger disk space) and another 5 to 10 hours of gameplay, maybe even another ending. Sucks, doesn't it? I mean, you could wait a year while everyone else plays it, and then you'd get all kinds of spoilers while you tried to savor your innocence until the superior version came out, or you could buy it now and know that you're getting the inferior version.

3rd party exclusives suck. They always have, and they always will. Either you get the game early and you know it's worse, or you wait until later and parts of the game get spoiled for you. I don't care how fun it is, you're always going to get that sinking feeling that you bought the wrong one: that you should have bought the original, or that you should have waited for the other.

And the worst part is: that regret never goes away. It's a choice you make that will always influence your thoughts on said game. It just sucks... there's really nothing more to it than that.

Bioshock might be a fun game, it's looking really hot actually... but you just know it's going to happen, it's really inevitable and... it just sucks that it's going to happen, and there's nothing you can do about it.
