Mar 10th 2011 10:56AM (Autoblog)Not sure why you spun my comment into a weight weenie argument, but I was simply using the new Elise as an example of a manufacturer chasing new customers that may want posh over raw track capability. Actually you kinda reinforced my point, ALL the manufacturers want to sell as many car as they can. I doubt Lotus cares who's driving their cars, but I'm sure they'd prefer 10,000 sixty year-old's driving Elise's around LA to 1,000 30-somethings doing track days.
Regarding your point about the big companies dropping weight from their cars, I hear a lot of TALK about reducing substantial kilos from any given model, but can you actually point to any substantial example of that? Yes, I know there are some really light prototypes out there from Audi and the like, but the vast majority of cars are getting fatter and heavier... and I'll be really surprised if that changes much.
