T-Mobile provides support, good vibes to its iPhone-using clientele

May 9th 2009 8:12AM (Engadget)
I completely agree. Several years ago I wanted to change the text messaging plan on my family plan. I was going to add the 1000 text messages for $7.99 on to the two lines on the account. Well I call up Tmobile and tell them to add it, they do and everything's good. Well the next day I get a call from Tmobile and the ladies like she was the one I talked to last night and they have a promo going on that for just $10 the whole family gets unlimited texting. I was in shock, Tmobile actually called me to let me know that for $4 cheaper I could get unlimited texting for the whole family. This included the two lines I added the original plan to, as well as a third line that I didn't have a text messaging plan on yet (little sister, didn't need it at the time). Who knows how much that lady saved me. You figure eventually I would of had to add a third text messaging plan to the the third line, plus this was back when I use to text less then 1000 a month. Not now when its less then 3000. I haven't heard of any other carrier doing this.

T-Mobile Sidekick LX 2009 review

May 5th 2009 2:40PM (Engadget Mobile)
Im 20 and I have thought about getting a different phone but the pro's of the sidekick outweigh the cons. One huge thing is the simpleness of the LX (or any sidekick). I can easily jump to any part of the phone by just pressing home+a key. I can switch from SMS, to the browser, to my RSS feed and back to the browser without having to go to the main screen. Plus I can decide what shortcuts do what. So I can have home+s go to SMS or I could have home+right shoulder button go to SMS. Its all about what easier for me.

I customize my own themes, so I'm able to change the icons for almost anything on the phone (the main ones). Now this customization isn't for everyone but its no different then having jail broken themes on an iPhone. I just wanted to say that before someone says customization is for teens or something. Although, I never got the the last sidekick (2008) because that one, has everyone can really agree, is kiddy or borderline. That phone is more for people that want to customize everything, but that wasn't for me, and isn't for a majority of people here.

Oh Chris, two things. First things is I know you said that the trackball was a little too slow but isn't that why they give the option to turn the speed up or down? So that's not really that bad. I know I have mine all the way up. And I'm not sure if you know but you can also use the send and end keys in the browser, as well some other places (notes, SMS, MMS etc.). This way you can "jump" faster up or down the page.

Second thing is if you tried to post a comment to Engadget. The one thing I hate is the fact that I cant comment straight from my phone. I dont know if that's because of the browser or your site. I'm thinking the browser just cant do it for some reason but still, figured I ask.

T-Mobile Sidekick LX 2009 review

May 5th 2009 2:19PM (Engadget Mobile)
Do you mean the icons or the wallpaper? Because the UI in general I think is perfectly fine. And the wallpaper can be changed simply by uploading your own theme. Off course, most people dont have time to create their own themes (and some dont know how, since Tmobile is not going to show how to do it) but the option is still there. Would of made sense to just let someone change the wallpaper from the phone, but that would mess up with the catalogue and Tmobile charging for themes/wallpaper.

T-Mobile Sidekick LX officially announced all over again

Apr 17th 2009 2:41AM (Engadget)
Why? Because they do what they were meant to do? Complain about it all you want but it does what it was designed to do. Calls are fine, I can hear the person clearly and vice verse. Texting is great on the phone, full keyboard that is easy to type on (Im a guy with semi big fingers). Media player that plays different types of music files as well as videos. Video player could be better but overall not horrible. Browser is great. I haven't used that many other cell phone browsers so I cant compare but for a regular internet browser it does fine. Configures the website to fit the screen layout but also gives the option to view a full page layout. Camera is also pretty good. Its not the best cell phone camera out there but takes good quality pictures that are fine with me. Im not expecting something huge from a cell phone camera. Umm lets see what else. Great email setup. I can had my other email accounts straight to my phone with its own tab. So I have my school account, yahoo account, and tmail account all in different tabs. The sidekick also has spell check, so I dont have to worry about spelling things wrong when it comes to an email, or a text.

Now were getting 3G, GPS, myspace/facebook/twitter (ok, not that huge but for certain people it is), better screen. better camera (3.2mp and autofocus), and probably some more things that Im missing. So yeah, I dont know where you get their the worst phones.

BlackBerry App World now live

Apr 1st 2009 1:35AM (Engadget)
The Sidekick had an app store (called catalogue) for years now, all the way back to the Sidekick 2. Not sure about the first. Now it wasnt that great but it was/is basically an store full of apps. The only thing Apple did, which I think everyone can agree on, is bring the idea of an App store to the forefront. Its becoming common now to expect an App Store kinda place.
