This lovely gun metal case will match the assault rifle I'll be carrying when the zombies attack. Just because the dead are walking doesn't mean there won't be an app for that :)

AppleCare has paid for itself

Oct 29th 2010 12:11AM (TUAW.com)
I've had a "few" issues with my machines. Some of which were undiagnosed software issues and others were just bad luck with hardware.

Looooong story short. I've gotten over $10,000 in free upgrades, gift cards, and "we're sorry your computer broke" ipods. The AppleCare Warranty is not only the best money I've every spent - it's the reason Apple is rated #1 in support.

For all the love I had to love back.

My license plate is "IMA MAC" :)

Why I'm not excited about the new Apple TV

Sep 3rd 2010 10:31PM (TUAW.com)
Yes and no ...

Owning movies -
I'll be the first to admit, I'm an electronic pack rat. I save everything I find interesting - bookmarks, images, videos, and even PDFs of webpage articles. This has caused me to fill more hard drives than I have fingers and require a 4TB RAID backup. That being said, I love the idea of 100% streaming. Granted you don't own the show (something I'm not in love with), but you don't have to "pay" to store it on a drive. Do the math, a 32GB iPad will cost so much money per bit, apply that to how much an unwatched tv show takes up when it sits there and you're burning cash. In an ideal world you could buy a tv show for $.99 and watch it 10 times or unlimited. Honestly, I have tv seasons sitting on my shelf that have been watched maybe twice.

HDMI -
It's a great format, it's not the best - but it's great. It's hard to buy a decent tv without it these days so it's not really an issue in my mind. I'm only buying an Apple tv for the living room and not planning on needing one anywhere else. I'm hoping that this will help me kick my cable addiction and save me $60 a month.

That all being said, I ordered my Apple TV within 5 hours of it's announcement and I don't expect to be let down. I love my iPhone 4, iPad, iPod Classic, 24" iMac, Two 15" MacBook Pros, MacBook, and dog named Apple just the same.

Report: Core i7 MacBook Pros running hot

Apr 27th 2010 9:51PM (TUAW.com)
I had a 2nd gen 15" unibody MacBook Pro and had it replace. I was happy to hear that they were sending me the new i5 as a replacement. I got the computer in the mail and within 10 hours of use it started overheating. It got up to 180 degrees (F) and pushed the fans to 6000RPM. It continues to get hot and burn everything it touches. Thanks Apple for an awesome replacement. Maybe you'll be able to get me a working computer on the 19th replacement since 18 obviously isn't the charm. (Yes, I've had 18 full replacements of my computer, strangely enough I still love Apple products, explain that one to me)
