Ideally, yes. In actuality, that would require all registrars to keep a running list of pretty much every registered trademark ever, and then having a some sort of process to detect any derivative or infringement therein. That isn't practical for any business, although it should be - that would take this whole issue away.

Unfortunately, domain names have become an inherent part of IP for companies. And once again I'll state that even though some (including me) don't like that, it's the law - bitching about it on an internet forum isn't going to change anything.

Why would it be illegal? Suppose his page was slathered with ads or click-throughs. People will likely hit modernwarfare3.com randomly, MW is popular, and there are folks who think they may get the newest MW news and info from such a site. The page loads the ads, and the squatter would be paid for the ads. Chances are he would had never attracted the traffic that he did without using that domain. He profits off of the Modern Warfare equity. Of COURSE the publisher would be pissed. Like it or not, agree with it or not, that's the thinking by someone in DC who pitched the law and had it signed.

Hilarious. It's not subservience to corporations, it was the law, and it was the law before this guy decided to register this domain. I DO happen to think snatching a domain simply because a person got lucky with a domain not yet registered is unethical. Why don't we all sit around and add suffixes to a moderwarfare domain and see how big of a shit-storm we can stir up, or how much money we can make?

And again, it's not whether or not you agree with the law. IT IS the law, and if you break it, expect to incur any consequences. It's just that simple. I don't agree with quite a few laws in this country, but I realize that if I choose to ignore them and I'm caught, tough shits for me. GoDaddy also realizes this, because when one of THEIR domains is being used to break the law, they can either surrender the customer info, or be subpoenaed, after which they'll be court ordered to surrender the customer info. Identity protection from registrars unfortunately doesn't cover squatters, and that's something that anyone who knows anything about domain administration should be aware of before plucking .com's out the sky.

It doesn't matter what kind of company they are, and it doesn't matter if you agree or disagree with the law, Abraham broke said law. I don't particularly care for Activision, but this guy had zero legitimate usage for the domain, and I'd be willing to wager it still had a blank or parked page attached.

Bottom line: he was simply trying to squat the domain for whatever reason, more than likely to get money from it.

Open and shut case, dude was simply squatting on the domain, which is illegal. I guess he was trying to see if he could get Activision to pay him a shitload or something.

Cool, maybe there's a new notification system in store. I got so sick of things popping up during video or typing e-mails on my iPad that I disabled them altogether. Hopefully that's something iOS 5 addresses.

I doubt it. The technology would be overkill. If the PPI is already higher than the human eye can perceive, what does increasing it really accomplish? Without a bump in screen size, not a whole lot. Now if Apple were in fact bumping the screen size up to 4.0", then it makes sense, but even then, devs would have to add another workflow, not sure if they're willing to do that. Unless of course iOS5 has some resolution independence trickery up it's sleeve. THAT I would say, makes the whole thing likelier.
