Brink review: Jumping high and falling flat

May 10th 2011 11:00AM (Joystiq)
@Caffer1

This is one review of many. If you go to metacritic you'll see the game got an average score of 72--which actually isn't bad. It just isn't great.

It's bad enough you're not at least willing to play the game first but to trust only one person's perspective over many--tsk tsk.

Activision: Kobe Bryant Black Ops ad controversy is 'hypocritical'

I think it's poor taste. We're celebrating killing. There's really not a nice, victimless way to look at that. Most films about war discuss its cruelty's and the tragedy of having to murder our fellow human beings. While video games glorify every moment of murder, dismemberment, and mayhem. I think they should accept about themselves that if we didn't have modern war and tragedy they wouldn't have jobs and big screen TVs.

I also want to quote Men in Black (obviously a supreme source on human behavior :P ) "A person is smart, people are dumb..."

I take that to mean; if you've done something that has garnered wide and immediate positive reaction--then more likely you've done something dumb. Look at the Nazi's--most of Germany thought it was a good idea to murder 6 million Jews and the world wasn't too rushed to stop it!

Assassin's Creed 2 will end with a cliffhanger

As long as 2 isn't as bland, boring, and repetitive as the first, I couldn't really care how poor the narrative structure is.

Yes, there will be more Ratchet & Clank in Fall 2009

I can appreciate your point of view. And honestly, I've only played Up Your Arsenal and Tools of Destruction, but I really enjoyed both games. I would personally like more platforming and more exploration, not just action-action-action. As well as more side-quests, kind of like hunting those big flying worm monsters in Tools, but not something so repetitive.

But still, I think the games are well-made fun. I'd rather play through tools of destruction again than about 70% of the other games I've played. But I definitely need more innovation.

What exactly would you like to see?

forgive my ignorance. But I see a number on the left, a red downward arrow, a number on the right, then a percentage. I'm pretty sure I get the two numbers embracing the red-arrow, but what's the percentage exactly. Because Wii's sales dropped, if I understand this correctly, by 500%. Then again, I may have no idea what I'm looking at; "Whoo-Hoo, our numbers are bigger than yours!"

LittleBigPlanet's Sackboy is PS3's 'next emblematic character'

Aug 13th 2008 8:46PM (Joystiq Playstation)
What about Ratchet? I think he's the most successful/popular western-made character in Japan at the moment.

I think the key with LBP, which is what really got me interested, is the multiplayer. I assume, but my be wrong, that it's like Warhawk with either 4 people on 1 ps3 or 4 over a network and anywhere in between. But the ability to create such a fun and creative social environment that appeals to hardcore and casuals alike is quite impressive. I don't ever see Sackboy over-taking Mario, but I'll accept him as a Sony Mascot for now.

Five minutes of inFAMOUS

I'll have to concede friend. I've played MGO online maybe...4-5 times. I did pretty well and was normally top 3 in my games. But you probably could kick my ass. CoD4, definitely. I beat that game in one night then returned it to Blockbuster. I think MGS4 is the 3rd person shooter to beat, but the enemies in Uncharted were far more animated and much harder to fight against. I think if you played MGS4 with Uncharted AI, it wouldn't feel as...forgiving? But considering the shooting mechanics of Grand Theft Auto 4, I think Uncharted has it beat, hands-down.

Trophies: Rock Band 2

Crushing is surprising easy in Uncharted. Well...not easy. But I promise 2 things. 1) You'll discover the easiest way to beat each scenario. 2) If you go back and play on easy, you won't even bother using cover. You'll feel like Arnold Schwarzenegger in Commando.
