MGS4 on Xbox 360 'a few months' after PS3, says OXM Rumor Mole

Jul 20th 2007 1:22PM (Joystiq)
Right, it's like 1.7 million XBOX 360 owners spending $59 for this game. That's quite possible.

Could Wii outsell the PS2? Iwata thinks it can

I'm a traditional 33 year gamer, too -- and I'm telling you that you are missing out by not getting a DS. I haven't been this happy with a system since the original NES. They have old school RPGs, Castlevanias, Super Mario Bros, NY Times crossword puzzles -- I mean I must have 30 games that I play REGULARLY. It makes me giddy just thinking about how good the library is.

Fallout 3 set for Fall 2008 release

Jun 5th 2007 2:04PM (Joystiq)
OK, I'd like to take back a component of comment #16 -- I was thinking Fall, 2007. Clearly TFA says Fall, 2008. Ugh.

Fallout 3 set for Fall 2008 release

Can't wait. What's with the pessimism? The release date is earlier than I thought, this video clearly shows that the team understands the previous design style (hoola girl on top of glowing vacuum tubes sums it up nicely) and the engine looks beautiful... it's a teaser and that's exactly what it did for me.

Today's thrashiest video: "Awakening" from Switchfoot

Apr 11th 2007 8:08AM (Joystiq)
Yes, the group is spiritual, but they are genuine and worked their asses off to get where they are -- not fabricated or Nashville / LA / NYC flavor of the week. This is the best video I've seen with totally random celebrity since Christopher Walken in Fat Boy Slim's Weapon of Choice. Good for them. (If you like this song and don't know the band, check out "Meant to Live", "Learning to Breathe", "I Dare You to Move"...)

Japanese hardware sales, Mar. 19 - Mar. 25: olympic pairing edition

All other competitor sales numbers COMBINED and then DOUBLED is still ~40,000 less then Nintendo's share. Is it safe to say that Nintendo is not just back in the game, but also the champion of this generation?

Game champion commits suicide over gambling debts

Jan 8th 2007 4:56PM (Joystiq)
There is always more to the story. He might have been a generally unhappy or lonely person with somewhat of an addictive personality disorder -- which is why gaming and gambling were his passion without enough additional support. Too many people see the symptoms (violent games, gambling, etc.) as a cause (he committed suicide because he was $13,000 in debt) and not really a symptom (he was $13,000 in gamblinb debt and committed suicide because he was unhappy).

Many, many people have credit card debt greater than $13,000 without committing any violent behavior. The average household in the US has $8000 of credit card debt, for example.

Anyway, it's a shame. I'm thinking of his family and friends.

360 : achievements :: PS3 : entitlements

Entitlement = not proper definition.

Sony, why not:

Sony denies snafu over used PS3 games [update 2]

May 26th 2006 12:26PM (Joystiq)
to #24, actually... you don't get what #22 is saying. #22 is correct. Read it carefully. The new rumor is basically saying this: you can buy a game and play it on any PS3 (including a replacement one). What you can't do is resell the license to play the game. This would effectively shut down all used game sales.

Microsoft CEO justifies Xbox 360 spending

May 2nd 2006 8:48PM (Joystiq)
Microsoft's ultimate goal is to have a Windows media PC in your den and an Xbox (or equivalent) in your living room streaming media. Users will download and pay for media off of the Live service. That is the future of media for a lot of people and this vision is in direct competition with Apple, Sony, Comcast and others. The Xbox is an expensive but necessary step.

Another way to measure success financially is by looking at the damage done to your competitors. There is no question that Sony is hurting -- really hurting -- because of this battle. To this extent, the entire Xbox plan is very successful for Microsoft. It can't be stressed enough that the next generation of consoles is less about the games and more about their corporate vision of media delivery. (I don't think I agree. I think this round of consoles will *still* be about the games...)
