DS Daily: On preventing piracy

Dec 11th 2008 10:07AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
My idea would be to reward a purchase rather than punish pirates. Far too often, the punishments affect the buyer rather than the thief. Think about those unskippable and annoying do not pirate ads on DVD. Had I pirated the movie, I would not be forced to watch this anti-piracy ad. I would offer collectible, such as figurines, to those who buy my product. If consumers feel respected by companies, they are less likely to steal. Valve treats their customers with respect and very few of their games are pirated to a large degree. On the other hand, Spore, the DRM leader, is one of the most pirated games of the year.

PS3 Fanboy review: Valkyria Chronicles

Nov 17th 2008 2:08PM (Joystiq Playstation)
I love this game. It has ruined the RPG and SRPG genres for me. This is the new standard bearer and it's a seriously addictive game.

This Street Fighter II trailer is the best around

Nov 12th 2008 2:40PM (Joystiq Playstation)
I think that new frames of animation would have required a complete rebuild of the game engine and pushed the project even more over budget than it is. It would probably have been canceled altogether. I also wish it were smoother but I love old-school SF so I cannot complain.

Since Capcom licensed some of the ggpo code, I'm expecting a smooth online experience. I didn't have many problems with Soul Calibur IV and that had much more stuff going on.

Valkyria Chronicles anime starts in Japan next Spring

Nov 12th 2008 2:37PM (Joystiq Playstation)
I love this game. It's probably going to be my game of the year. Everything about it is charming. I'll definitely replay it after I finish my first run-through. I just ordered some of the Trading Figures last night. With this news about the anime, hopefully more of these will be made.

DS Daily: So did you import one?

Nov 12th 2008 10:14AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I didn't either. Decreased battery life and loss of NeoDS is a deal breaker. The downloadable games will have to be amazing in order for me to even consider this purchase.

Next week's Rock Band DLC wails, blinks and twinkles

Now there are 4 songs I'm interested in on Rock Band. I wish there were more.

Wii Warm Up: Holiday wishes

Oct 17th 2008 8:43AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Tales of Symphonia and Ultimate Shoting Collection are the only Wii games on my Holiday list. The DS and PS3 are getting more love from me during that time.

DS Daily: Saving up for a Flowery, Sunny, and Rainy day

Oct 12th 2008 10:20AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I am a steady importer. I generally stick to games that are not being released domestically. I own lots of DS, Gamecube, SNES, N64 and PS3 imports. I pre-ordered the European Flower, Sun and Rain when it seemes unlikely to reach the states. I'm debating whether or not to cancel that order. I'll definitely buy the domestic release but I may want the European release as well. I'm a huge Suda51 fan and so is my wife. Maybe I'll buy the US release for her and keep the European for myself.
