Jun 7th 2011 12:06AM (Joystiq)Now, I'll give Sony the credit for the apology, it was very sincere. I could've done without it meshing into how great of a network service they are, but still sincere.
And while I'm not saying that, yeah, getting two free PSN games and such is great, don't take this situation lightly. As an IT professional, I've done some research on the incident, and it is chilling to think that a company that big would have such a weak defense in their network. The fact of how they treat their data and how secure it is, well, it's very pathetic, and for a company like Sony to treat it this way is inexcusable.
Nintendo had an attack on their network (more or less a third party company got attacked), and the hackers got nothing. And Microsoft I'm sure has had attempts on them, and as far as I know there's been no major breech of personal data (someone please prove me wrong on this). So, I'm guessing I was hoping to hear in Tretton's speech was not more apologies, but more of "we understand that security is of a greater investment, and Sony must make that their top priority." Hell, you could even have that lead into all of the wonderful services they have and are coming out with.
While their apology is fantastic and sincere, I would be fairly cautious as a Sony consumer, and for that matter.
