Sega making 'all new' 2D, hi-def Sonic game for 2010

Thank the Dreamcast's anniversary.

"It's thinking."

Sony patents more motion tech, uses everyday objects

Jul 4th 2009 3:40AM (Joystiq)
"The patent shows off a PlayStation Eye-based system that can recognize 3D objects and use them in-game based on various actions taken by the player -- something Microsoft claims it's Natal is also capable of doing."

I don't recall seeing this in the Natal demonstration (though if the PS Eye can do it, Natal certainly can).

This patent is completely unrelated to what Natal's "scanning" involves. With this, you could use a coffee mug, and the camera would track its motions and display something else (e.g. a sword). In essence, it's more like using a Wii remote but being able to hold, well, anything else. The Natal demo, on the other hand, showed "scanning" an object, which would replace an object in the game (e.g. a skateboard) that isn't necessarily tracked.

The best part of the Natal demo was the kid scanning said skateboard (with his hand covering part of the design), and then playing a game where you couldn't see the underside of the board anyway.

Hands-on: Project Natal: Burnout

We need the map to figure out which way to go!

Say "Map!"

LOUDER!

Hands-on: Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (Wii)

"I don't care how much of an "everyman" you are, I'm damn sure you'd pick up SOMETHING to try and defend yourself with."

If one of those things came up to me in an empty street in the middle of the night, I would do one thing: run.

Sorry, two things. I would also shriek like a little girl.

PSP Go and buy all-new accessories

Jun 6th 2009 3:50AM (Joystiq)
You must be using some kind of "bizzaro-Joystiq." Count the number of posts on this page defending the $250 price tag.

That's a grand total of one, given you can count mine. As a current non-PSP owner, I think $250 is a fair price (considering how over-priced I consider the DSi and iPod Touch to be).

Non-standard USB cables is a huge disappointment. But then again, a single proprietory cable isn't too bad, given that if you want component cables for the Wii or a VGA cable for the 360, you have to get THEIR proprietory cables.

Forza Motorsport 3 will ship on two discs

I guess the difference is that the majority of 360 owners have the 20GB version, and that baby fills up FAST.

While it's obvious that DVD is reaching its limits, I give the developers credit for not simply releasing it as "free DLC" (which probably would've earned them Criterion-style Brownie points), because then it wouldn't just be a "HDD required" game, it'd be a "HDD and Broadband required" game.

Nintendo releasing black Wii, red DSi this summer

Jun 4th 2009 3:49AM (Joystiq)
I'd definitely sell my white Wii to get this, but since there's no way to transfer VC games (short of sending your Wii to Nintendo), it's not really an option.

Though I know there are people out there who would still be willing to do that.

PSN Thursday: Ready to buy Resident Evil again?

May 29th 2009 1:11AM (Joystiq)
It's great, isn't it?

If only everyone would learn that pirating games is the only way to go.

I mean... Imagine the awesome games we could all get for free if none of us paid for them?

House of the Dead: Overkill stirs up trouble down under

Mar 20th 2009 6:09AM (Joystiq)
This is pretty much exactly what I thought.

It'd be one thing if it were a PG rated game that didn't mention that it had swearing, but a game with zombies, boasting about horrendous violence, blood and death, with a BIG RED STICKER on the front that says it's inappropriate for children?

Harden the fuck up, Australia.

LGJ: More game laws?

Feb 10th 2009 5:23AM (Joystiq)
Instead, since the start of the year, it seems there has been an explosion of potential new video game regulations, from Jack Thompson's bill in Utah, to New York, to the US Congress, to Australia

Actually, in the case of the Australia, that's old legislation which has been improperly enforced. MMOs are supposed to have ratings. They don't. They should. They will. Done.

Australia's game legislation requires improvement, yes, but unlike the US, our politicians... no, politician (Michael Atkinson) is more interested in keeping things the way they are than changing anything.
