Max Payne 3: first trailer heads to a seedy Brazil

@freaparn

You're right about the history of the game, my bad. But I am still happy with Rockstar as a game company and maintain my optimism.

Max Payne 3: first trailer heads to a seedy Brazil

I still can't believe the hate this game is getting. Rockstar has already delivered two outstanding story driven games with this franchise, and I find it hard to believe that they will break their streak. Also, I doubt development took longer for Rockstar to "appease" any fans....probably just money issues like always.

I know I am stoked and can't wait for this to come out.

Hitman: Absolution using 'Avatar' mo-cap tech, hollywood actors

@RudyHuxtable

I thought Olyphant did a good job with the character....it's too bad that the story was pure garbage. And justified has turned out to be the Man soap opera I've been craving since Sopranos ended and Brotherhood was prematurely concluded by Showtime.....I hate them, except they do have Dexter...so I only hate them a smidge.

Pre-order Duke Nukem Forever, get free OnLive MicroConsole

May 14th 2011 9:12AM (Joystiq)
SCORE! People who haven't tried Onlive should give it a go if they have a moderate connection. I have a great connection and a shiiiity PC so Onlive has been a godsend. With my consoles, I can no longer play keeping up with cutting edge tech due to cost and Onlive overall has better looking graphics with my preferred mouse/keyboard setup. I have been fortunate to not have connection issues so it works beautifully. And to top it off, you can try it for free.

On a side note, there is a lot of progress to be made with multiplayer games in the way of server issues and the small community right now (Homefront runs well for me, but sometimes hard to find a full server), but let's face it, Duke has always been, and always will be, a single player experience.....now where did I place my gum?......

Batman: Arkham City environment five times bigger than the Asylum

@whylekat

I think that since it was a linear story, it should not really have been necessary to move between the sections (like the mansion to the gardens)....and it was really easy to upgrade all of my stuff with just the normal story.

Batman: Arkham City environment five times bigger than the Asylum

5X larger seems way too much....I for one do not like all the travel time between objectives.....I gots stuff to do. Also, I do not care one bit about collecting all the little trophies and stuff, so hopefully they will allow quick travel through the linear story (personally hated the travel in AA).

Report: Sony could remotely disable jailbroken PS3s

Jan 11th 2011 6:32PM (Joystiq)
My understanding is that when you license software, such as the PS3's OS (capable of running games/apps/etc) you are bound to Sony's terms of use which pretty much state that you can have your license revoked. In essence, Sony could revoke access to the software, which would effectively brick the system, and not actually destroy any hardware. Mr. Hacker could do as he pleased with the hardware such as program his own open source OS that may/may not run the way he would like, or he could even use it as a door stop.

Seems to me the hardware would still be fine and would run if the user still had a valid license. And if Sony doesn't have it written this way, then the next generation they should simply sell the hardware as-is and state that with a valid license they could play games/apps/whatever. People who wanted to run there own OS would be free to do so as long as they had the right tools and know-how. I am too lazy to read the EULA, but I bet with the right lawyers this would fly just fine.

Oh and I still think pirating will help to fix this industry in the end....good luck to honest developers and gamers until then.

This game sounds fun...but am I the only one that thinks the screens look utterly generic?

Hacker GeoHot claims release of PS3 root key

Jan 3rd 2011 10:31PM (Joystiq)
I love these threads....

Just a quick question for those on the high horse. How many industries have products that you have to buy before knowing if it is any good or even works as advertised? Games, music, and movies fall into this category (at least music has some avenues to listen to legally before buying).

And I know some will say "check the reviews" or whatever other lame argument you get, but fact remains, games like Black Ops for the PS3 are defective out of the package (heck, it still is) and you cannot get a refund. If I purchase a monitor that doesn't display images then I take it back to the store I bought it from and either replace it or get a refund. The fact that you have to commit to a piece of software immediately before trying is unacceptable IMO. So I thank the hackers and pirates for moving this whole industry towards a model that will be acceptable to all (cloud gaming at a monthly rate, Netflix, etc..). Until this finally happens, developers won't be seeing a whole lot of full price for games as I cannot trust I am being delivered a working product, let alone one I will like. I will continue to cruise bargain bins and used games after I thoroughly watch the reviews for a particular game/movie/music...whatever, but I am not sure that is any better for the creators than outright stealing is.
