Insomniac considering new IPs, Ratchet sells a million

Mar 6th 2008 9:17PM (Joystiq)
Ratchet and Clank is good fun. The sense of humour is great too.

I bought a PS3 in a bundle with three games. Ratchet and Clank is awesome. Drake's Fortune is Exquisite. Resistance? That was possibly one of the less engaging and worse games ever. I hope that Resistance 2 at least throws me a challenge and something that resembles story telling.

What was up with the stills and narration? I am a sucker for FMVs and at least they redeem games with average gameplay. I am hoping that Resistance 2 gives Gears of War a run for it's money because I was not impressed by it.

I know own all 3 consoles so no flames here. I just feel like I was let down by Resistance when it had so much potential. That said I do not really play multiplayer online campaigns so maybe it shines there. (Fingers crossed for Resistance 2).

Microsoft entertainment division turns profit, thanks Halo

Why does everyone have to slate Bill Gates? He made a fortune, well done to him.

As for Halo raking in money? Yeah we know it was going to. Microsoft do actually try to make a profit as a company (and succeed). Congratulations to them for turning their 2nd generation console into a profit when there was actually something to compete against. (Playstation 1 did not have a challenge with my much loved Dreamcast).

I wish Sony a good turn around next year and with some of their exclusives I may just get myself a PS3. In the meantime, Nintendo damn you for bringing out Samba di Amigo soon :-)

So uhh, yeah, well done on the profit thing.

Painkiller: Overdose demo now available

Hey Joystiq you monkeys. Check out some of the gallery screen shots on the official site.

The stake gun is alive and well! Recommend the download. Besides, why would they pull the plug on possibly the most amusing weapon of all time. (Ducks before being used as a Video Games makes people violent scapegoat).

Nintendo makes annoying "fun" again; sticking to game specific Wii friend codes?

Mar 15th 2007 4:32AM (Joystiq)
If this is founded the following applies:

Sony's PR was bought by Nintendo

Nintendo's PR was bought by Sony

New status quo:

"We want to make our customers enjoy the gaming experience" = Sony

"We sold our console and that was all lies about making the console for the mass market" = Nintendo

I currently own the Wii and will get the PS3 at some point but not at launch.

Unreal Tournament 2007 renamed, confirmed for 360

Jan 25th 2007 7:29PM (Joystiq)
Again?! Another delay? This game was due last November. I was all psyched about getting it. Now it has been delayed from March to 3nd half of 2007? For what? Console ports?

They should just release the game on PC already and let those of us who cherish "Headshot" and "Wicked Sick" to get on with playing the sweet sweet game!

Although on Live that could be lots of fun too!

PS3 bike commercial: This is living? This isn't even trying

The problem is that we all know what the technology in the controller is. Sidewinder stuff from Microsoft from about 8 years ago.

However Jo public does not necessarily know this. Marketing is taking advantage of people's ignorance as well as selling a product. We may all complain but to a person who does not play games that often it's new.

Remember that valuable lesson!

Sony against the world

Dec 16th 2006 9:59PM (Joystiq)
The PS3 has it's work cut out. However, I have to say that there is going to be a small hype. I just heard someone tell me this afternoon that his friend had imported one from China and that the graphics blew the 360 away!

I asked him if he had seen the two side by side. After a brief demo of the two together, the guy suddenly realised that the 1080p is all a pile of lame excuses if you do not have a TV that cannot support it!!

Right now, in Europe and I can guarantee this as an IT consultant, the most sought after Christmas present in the UK at least is the Wii. People keep asking where they can find them and apart from saying Ebay, there is no Wii love for them till mid Jan!!

Sony better pull up their socks and get a new PR team. I am sure that at launch we will have the same hype for the PS3 with people waitin to get them. However, MSoft have had a year to fix kinks in their Live system and they are doing very well. Not perfect but getting close.

Sony need to start installing a base for the PSN. Remember, the company that is trying to increase its userbase is actually Nintendo. From a business standpoint they are succeeding (check their stock price in the last 6 months). The DS is getting a lot of non gamers on board. The Wii is proving appealing to the casual gamer. They make money on each unit they sell. Now they have to keep it up.

Microsoft are losing money on the consoles but have a pretty appealing package and Live is delivering on its promises slowly but surely.

Sony are losing money on the consoles. They are sadly losing exclusives as sales of the games are limited due to console numbers. The PSN is not as advanced in its maturation as Live and so they have an upward struggle. Do not count them out but for the moment they are not looking like market leaders in the "next-gen" (sorry joystiq, current gen ;-)) wars.

In order for Sony to start making some serious headway they need to market the machine well. So far their PR and marketing team have managed to annoy a lot of people. I think a new approach on the system is needed especially for Europe. In fact Europe may be a fail or succeed point for Sony. If they make it big then that will help a lot. That said the launch delay till March 2007 is no good thing. I guess we have to watch this space!

TGS: Gears of War, WRU?!

Sep 23rd 2006 8:41AM (Joystiq)
In response to #5 geves

There is a huge difference between anime and other media in terms of censoring.

For instance, Kill Bill in the US to not get an R rating had to change the scene where Uma Thurman fights Lucy Liu and the 77 into black and white. The reason was that too much blood (i.e. red blood) would have made the film ultra violent. In black and white apparently it is not as graphic.

Now I am not sure why the Japanese are causing grief to MSoft about Gears of War but I guess it is due to the fact that humans are being totally munched down. In anime generally it is only some animes which are more graphic (read Ichi the Killer) which has a restriction on it.

It could be that the Japanese want that game to only be for mature audiences and in accordance MSoft cannot let it be playable on a floor which is exposed to the general public later on. TGS opens its doors to the public in its final couple of days.

Just to let you know.

Rumor: Wiimote with mic, VoIP support

May 24th 2006 5:48PM (Joystiq)
Ah yes this just begs for it!

-"Hi Honey, I am calling you using my wii!"
-"Oh grow up darling!"
-"No! Seriously I am using my wii to call you!"
-"Ok well go play with your wii then."

Oh endless nights of fun before even owning one! I love you Nintendo. You were right, hours of fun for less money! :-)

Seriously though, that would be super cool to have VOIP as well as the other rumour of a possible web cam. Now if they get a game that involves Karaoke, Guitar Hero, Bongos and the Cha Cha controllers (Dreamcast Samba de Amigo) you can get CLASH OF THE BANDS :-)

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET

I highly doubt that VOIP will be an option. Probably a multiplayer experience form of communication. It would be too difficult to set up the VOIP a la skype. Think about the software logistics as well as network logistics. It is a whole new world of admin that Nintendo do not need.

Kutaragi: PlayStation 3 is "too cheap"

May 17th 2006 5:49PM (Joystiq)
Oh I forgot to mention one quick thing!

SEGA COME BACK PLEASE! We are ready to accept the Dreamcast again. (I have mine linked to a VGA box) Pwetty please, let us bring back another "real player" into the market!
