bounchfx,

No, the 360 version will not have online play.

Microsoft profits down, Xbox 360 revenues up

Jan 26th 2007 10:40AM (Joystiq)
"Only if you have an HD set, and even then you just get updated graphics. If you still have an SD set it's no better than the first Xbox."

You are an idiot. Even with a SDTV, the graphics on Xbox 360 still look miles better than the original Xbox and considering the fact that the Wii's graphics is more or less on par with the original Xbox, it cannot even compete with the 360 on SDTV. Go play Gears of War and tell me if this game looks any different than Xbox titles.

Woman dies of 'water intoxication' after radio contest

Jan 14th 2007 8:22PM (Joystiq)
Optimus Prime,

Sorry, but that kind of logic sickens me. We are humans living in a highly structured society, not animals struggling to survive. Please don't apply Darwin's logic incorrectly. Just because the woman was ignorant of water intoxication, as was about half of the other people in this topic, does not mean that she deserved to die. I hope the radio station did NOT have waiver forms, after all, her kids probably need the money now (I hope they at least gave the kids the Wii). Anyways, the radio station deserves getting punished for such a moronic and hazardous contest.

Women's Health Mag: Grab your man's joystick

"Women's Health Mag: Grab your man's joystick"

I thought the title was contextually referring to grabbing a man's penis.

Report: Mobile gaming to grow 27% annually

Jan 5th 2007 6:22PM (Joystiq)
Cell phone gaming is something I never really got into. The entire gaming experience on phones feels more like an afterthought. and I think that's the problem. Compared to devices where gaming is the sole focus, phones don't cut it. The controls are cumbersome and are never comfortable, because there are no concepts of actual gaming in mind when the phone is being designed.

The games themselves are typically of a quality that predates the NES. They're just too limited. The games that do have some decent graphics to them turn up short on gameplay, difficulty, or length. somtimes all three. I think the best thing they can do for the Cell phone gaming industrsy, is release solitare. It's the only game that makes sense.

People only cell-game when they don't have acess to real games. Long train ride on the subway? Gonna be a while? Nothing to do? Looks like a job for Solitare!

Report: Mobile gaming to grow 27% annually

I see no future for mobile games. First and foremost, the great majority of mobile games are absolutely terrible. Secondly, some of them are way too expensive. I'm not paying over $5 for what may be a worthless game on a platform that doesn't exactly have the most intuitive control scheme.

I don't understand the focus on this "market." Branding on the mobile platform has little to no effect on gamers like myself because I'm well aware of the limitations of mobiles. Splinter Cell for example has no place on the mobile platform because the essence of the game is destroyed in the transition. The only types of games that may possibly be good for the mobile platforms are card games and other simplistic fare. I'll stick to my DS thanks.

Rare founding bros bounce, vets fill in

Jan 2nd 2007 11:52PM (Joystiq)
@ 15: "Too bad, but there is still the other 300+ members that was there from the start."

Sorry, that's just not true. The reason that many believe the quality of the games they've put out has dropped off, is that all of the key developers left. "Between 2000 and the final acquisition of Rare Ltd., more than 50 people left the company. After the acquisition was complete, at least 30 more left. Commentators have noted that Rare's first Xbox title, Grabbed by the Ghoulies, is the company's biggest flop to date."

"Key members of the GoldenEye development team left Rare soon after beginning work on Perfect Dark. Head of Software Martin Hollis was the first to leave in 1998, working at Nintendo of America on the GameCube, and in 2000 he started his own company, Zoonami. Other members such as David Doak left soon after he did and formed Free Radical Design. However prior to both of these events, Rare had already publicly lost staff from other teams."
--Wikipedia.

Honestly, I'm shocked that the brothers stayed with the company as long as they did. Rare definitely isn't the proud game developer it once was, and people no longer wait on baited breath for the next Rare game like they used to. They're not horrible, but they certainly aren't as amazing as they used to be.

Wii Sports wins TIME's game of the year

Jan 2nd 2007 10:37PM (Joystiq)
@ 43

Oh please, get off you high horse and stop insulting people who aren't videogame nerds. I'm sorry you don't enjoy party games and think the only game worthy of GOTY is one you can sit alone in a dark room with and play for 10 hours straight. I hate to use the word threatened, but that's what you sound like - you'd have no reason to go on the offensive otherwise. Nintendo is doing something that no other videogame company is able to achieve, and that is entertaining non-gamers. We have had dozens - no, hundreds - of games over the past few years that have offered novel-esque experiences. We have had none that offer the accessibility and fun that Wii Sports offers to anyone who picks up the controller. It is a refreshingly new experience - Gears of War is not nearly so.
