"How hard would it be to place a solar cell or two on the console or whatever appliance to charge a mini battery that would provide the "instant on" capability."
Thats right. How about going one stage further and having the buttons in the controller generate electricity when you tap on them, like those kinetic watches.
Seriously though, Local electricity generation is the key. You can't change human nature, there will always be too many people out there who don't give a shit so you have to make it easy for them - Make the energy they use be generated by a non-poluting power source. Then we can leave all our gear in standby for as long as we want.
Good call by the british government to try and do something about it but I think they're barking up the wrong tree.
8. "The Question is, When did Driver go 3D ala GTA3?"
Driver has always been 3D.
1. "Now if people could quit calling it a GTA clone and realize that GTAIII is a Driver clone."
How do you come to that conclusion? I can't see much GTAIII lifted from the first 2 games of the driver series other than perhaps the perspective? But then thats a standard viewpoint for all car games.
The ZeroCorpse hit the nail on the head - good post!
Retraining the public on a new name when they had a perfectly good one already is stupid and a waste of money and yes, the name will adversely effect sales of the consoles no matter how much most of you think "The name doesn't matter, its the games".
Plenty of crap games sell in the bucket loads and too many good games underperform at retail - Its the marketing that decides if something succeeds or not and Nintendo's just messed it up.
Perhaps some of you should stop whinging at Joystiq and other posters because they voice a valid opinion and start to realise that this pointless name change could be the end of the line in the home console market for Nintendo.
