RANT: Viral marketing cause of console flame wars?

Jan 27th 2007 7:57AM (Joystiq Playstation)
My personal faviourite of the virial campain (and yes it does happen I know people who do.) is the "fall from grace." it takes a while and is not that fair from a couple of "con jobs" where the person is a big fan.. huge.. will hear nothing bad about his "company" I've been a hard core fan since such and such a time I've playied all the games even the obscure ones you've never heard of I'm that hard core. Then over time, the seeds of doubt slip in, the "ooh well yeah but I liked the look of this as well." bit of bad news? "pfft just typical of them they were better way back when" the play on nostalga and how good it used to be. and then it's the full on.. "I've lost complete faith in this company, they have broken my 'hard core' back." and thus make others think "wow if this guy can loose faith then what kind of a company is this and what about me?"

Another favourite is the "considered opionion" where the person can put forward the information and argue with you logically, however all the terminology is derogatory in nature (talking the company/product down or using dismissive language.) even though is it supposed to be 'bigging' the item up. I have also seen two "workers" both arguing against each other on this and other board having almost the same argument, but both coming to the same conclusion that the one company is better than the other.

it's interesting stuff, just a have a look for it, over time other people will start to use the same argument technique without realising it. ;)

Rumor: Gears of War PC-bound?

Nov 18th 2006 11:26AM (Joystiq)
Can't wait for this to come out on the PS3 ;)

Can't see it coming...... then you prolbably didn't see the move to PC either. Of course Epic (Not owned by Microsoft!) are going to port out a successful FPS out as much as they can, Heck there will probably be a Wii version as well! In just the same way that after UT2007 has been out for a while on PS3 it will come to X360. Time exclusives seem all there is left anymore.

Rumor control: No plans for PS3 downgrade

Jun 19th 2006 7:03AM (Joystiq Playstation)
Dear God people!!

What does it have to take?
You get a straight answer for once and your still umming and Ahhhing about if it's true or not.. let the rumour die!

As to the yeld problem that was quite a while ago (good few months) and in yield terms a few generations ago, why not get up to date info before stating that it is still likely. (yes a few months is a lot of time in terms of chip yields!)

50/50 my 4ss

/Walks off in despair.

UK PlayStation 3 comes in at £425, Sony loses its marbles

May 18th 2006 12:30PM (Joystiq)
Difficult to know what to say to this. It is a lot though looking at it from a local point of view £425 is easyier to swallow than $600 must be for the yanks. But even as a fan of the Psone and PS2 this is going to be a slim year for games if I do buy it. I hope that the acceleration/improvement of PS1 and PS2 games actually means something as that is what I will be playing on it until after X mas >_

Gans to direct Onimusha film

Apr 27th 2006 8:26AM (Joystiq)
Anyone who has played SH2 should easily be able to see why they left the ending the way that they did.

In my humble opinion SH2 was the best of the series and although a lot was taken from SH1 and 2 to make the film the story line was left untouched. Sean Bean starting the film after just pulling into a Silent Hill toilet out side of the city beside the lake looking at him self in the mirror anyone?

I personally liked the film and I liked the strong symbolism that was used and although some of the dialogue was cheesy, I thought that it was over all well done, the end was the only part that left me a little out of sorts (the main "gore" scene where she re-enacted her revenge) for a movie that is so tightly inter-linked with what had gone before that a few things stand out as out of place, "spoiler" ---- such as the barb wire "arms", I think a better device would have been the ash babies coming out and dragging then towns folk into the burning pit below.

either way I liked it I thought that the music which was written by the game score creator was excellent and did a wonderful job of building tension.

as to the game to film nay sayer's I would advise them that this Genre is still a burgeoning one and still being tweaked film by film, some will take steps forward some with take steps back but it will get there. ;)
