Two words to explain the difference in cost: Radiation hardening. Once that snapdragon processor is no longer protected by the shielding offered by our atmosphere, it's going to be flipping bits left and right. That is if you actually got the thing in orbit.....
I completely agree. With the video chat alone on the new iPhone, data usage will double with just casual use of the feature (when not on wifi). Therefor, those 98% that never went over 2gb with the 3g are probably going to hit 4-5gb with the new phone. So, now instead of paying $30 a month, we're paying $45 - $55 a month in data alone?! That more than my high speed cable internet!!! I think this is a real shady move on AT&T's part...
I can't believe it was stable enough to get those benchmarks off. Overclocking just one component like that is hard enough, but getting 4 to work at the same time? Wow...
It really should be fairly trivial to do since by porting it to the Mac also forces the Devs to do all the work necessary to port it to Liunx, since both OS's are based on Unix. Furthermore, they also both use OpenGl, though I'm not sure if the windows version uses OpenGl or DirectX......
I've played doom3 under ubuntu with no issues at all. (and it installs surprisingly easy). Honestly, video card driver support on linux has greatly improved due to the heavy use of beryl/compix desktops. In my latest Linux install, ubuntu 10.04, I didn't have to do anything to get it to work, it was all ready to go from the start :-)
