Guitar Hero: World Tour won't include 'No Fail' option

Sep 3rd 2008 10:04AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Yeah, but basically, you already ARE getting more with GH:WT than you do with RB2: music creator, Mii mode, DLC (which I've never actually seen confirmed for the Wii...has anyone else seen so?), create a rocker, etc. So...where does RB2 stack up with the goodies on its side? Just the same game as RB1 but with online now, and the missing modes from RB1 for the Wii now in RB2? I'm not trying to be down on RB2 (even though Wii owner's got the royal shaft treatement with RB1), but really what is it doing to stack up against the package that is GH:WT?

X-Play extends to one hour in December

Sep 3rd 2008 9:04AM (Joystiq)
Actually, I wouldn't say they are going for "casual" gamers. The majority of G4 are going for more of a SpikeTV Lite I think, with shows like Cops and Cheaters. Most gamers I know who watch the channel still watch AOTS, G4, and the Japanese imported shows. The ones that appeal to the "geek" in you. :-) The other shows are trying to draw in the "hip" Spike crowd, which I can do without. :-P

X-Play extends to one hour in December

I prefer the new show layout over the old. Sure, the old layout was good, but it just got TOO MUCH towards the end. Too much spastic sketches, and not enough games. I like the new format; I think its good that the show now seems to take games with a bit of seriousness. The ONLY problem I’ve had with the new show format is that I’ve always felt it was too short at 30 min episodes. They didn’t really have TIME to do anything…no really good interviews, or longer reviews, and such. I’ve always thought that the show should have been extended to 1 hour length episodes. The only thing I’m unsure of now, is that the above says 1 hour long WEEKEND NIGHT episodes. So, does that mean that X-Play would go from 5 nights a week, to just TWO nights a week? ONE hour long episode each weekend night? Because if so, I think that would be even worse and more lousy than the 30 minute daily episodes. Over all time cut down by 30 minutes does NOT sound like an improvement to me.

On another note, Adam Sessler is the gaming man as far as I'm concerned. :-) I've seen him in interveiws, and on plenty of other G4 things, and he really does seem to ENJOY being a gamer. He plays, he likes. He's enthusiastic in his comments, and you can tell her really has a passion for the gaming industry. G4 (or any gaming programming) needs more hosts like Adam to spread around. Morgn, while hot, I find pretty MEH when it comes to the gaming side. I could be wrong, but she just doesn't seem to put the spirit into the business that Adam does, I think. Kevin and AOTS are okay, but they've moved a lot away from gaming/tech and on to stupid YouTube videos, etc. The show just has seemed to lose a lot of the focus it used to have, in my own opinion. Which is a shame, because AOTS was one of only 3 shows I really used to watch on G4: AOTS, X-Play, and Ninja Warrior (who doesn't love ninja's in training?). Now, AOTS is pretty much replaced with Unbeatable Banzuke! Love that show. :)

See John McCain in POW Bros.

@Chuck J:

The most offensive thing I find here. :-) I'm republican, proud to be, AND I own and play a Wii. Stop with the stereotyping already. :-P

Virtual Console adds classic role-playing, tardy fighter

I completely agree with you, Russ. Y's I & II on the Turbo-CD had and still has one of the best soundtracks of all time, in my opinion. I've been waiting for this one since day one of Turbo-CD releases on the VC, and I'll be picking it up instantly as soon as I get home and get logged onto my Wii. :-) Its not only the music, though. I also love the voice overs (unique in the day when this was released) and the story I've always found was great, spread over the two games. Can't wait to get home now, d/l this, and play it on my 51". Good times! Gooooooood times!

GC 2008: Piping hot trailer for The Conduit

Aug 22nd 2008 9:28AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
Saw this on IGN after it was posted. The Conduit is just looking better and better, I think, with every video/interview that I see. I can't wait for reports from people at PAX, since its supposed to be playable at Nintendo's booth.

Top 5: Upcoming Original IPs from Third Parties

Aug 14th 2008 11:42AM (Joystiq Nintendo)
I kind of have to agree with Al3xand3r on this one. There really are a TON of new, original IPs heading for the Wii this and early next year, ALL via the friendly way of THIRD PARTIES. When I compare what is happening with the Wii to the PS3/X360, I see more original IP heading to the experimental system than I do to the others, and I have absolutely no problem with that. :-) And the best thing is, most of them look pretty good, or have a really interesting idea behind them, like Mushroom Men and Conduit (the control scheme seems out-of-this world heavenly for a game like it is) and MadWorld and...ummm...shoot, can't think of its name now, but the new one announced based in the Himalayas(?). Deep Silver it appears is taking a page from HVS and developing an engine that sounds like it should offer just as amazing graphics for the system compared to other games on the hardware as The Conduit does (the sweeping vistas of mountain ranges sounds particularly interesting to me). Can't wait for Leipzig, because Deep Silver is supposed to be there and I'm hoping this new one gets shown off. :-) The Wii is really starting to pick up steam now, heading pretty much roughly the same way the DS did, in my opinion. And I say, let the train steam on!!

BioWare considering Mass Effect DS

Aug 8th 2008 12:14PM (Joystiq)
The thing which really gets me about companies doing something like this is...why say DS but not Wii? If you are going to send something over the Nintendo way that was previously elsewhere, why limit it to just the DS? You only want a corner of the portable market? Why not the PSP as well? The use base not big enough on the PSP/Wii to take advantage of for big name franchises like those?

EA Sports drafts Wii 'All-Play' lineup

Jun 27th 2008 10:36AM (Joystiq)
Oh. And I guess it should have been said, that all of the games DO have the regular "hardcore" simulation modes. They just have the "other" All Play stuff in as extras. Different ways for different folks to play the games.

EA Sports drafts Wii 'All-Play' lineup

Jun 27th 2008 10:35AM (Joystiq)
Shaq-Fu, I have to say that I completely agree with you on this one. I've never really been too big into the sports games, just occasionally, but from keeping up on the EA All-Play games over on IGN, these are sounding pretty damn good for the Wii this year. The "Call Your Shots" thing in Madden is going to add an amazing depth to the online games. IGN has already confirmed that you CAN use it in online, AND the online sounds like it runs pretty well. The strategy going to have to be put into Madden 09 Wii games online is sounding pretty sweet. And Tiger Woods sounds like THE golf game to get this year. The (almost) 1-1 motion and ball control, plus online 4 player matches, and "battle ball" or whatever its called sounds just fun. Also(and yes I'm going to use the words I hate to use) for a Wii game, it sounds like they HAVE made good strides in the graphics department. They haven't started from the ground up with a new graphics engine, but it does sound like they are pushing it further this year than they even attempted to last year. Oh...and there IS an NHL game coming to the Wii, too. For me, this year it sounds like its all in the controls, and I'll take that over "bling bling" graphics. :-)
